Stayed with party of three from 30th Dec to the 4th of Jan 2014, I stayed in the single room with shared shower. The location is superb, minutes from just about everywhere in central Munich including the Marienplatz, tubes, great beer halls etc. Be sure to take advantage of the guided tours which start at the Marienplatz at around 10.45am, every morning I think...the guides are incredibly knowledgeable and they last from for around 4-5 hours and include: Central Munich, The Third Reich and of course the infamous Dachau Concentration Camp which although possibly unsuitable for young children, many were present; a darker side of humanity but most Germans have faced their past and the site is a dedicated to the suffering of the inmates of which many were German themselves, chilling and thought-provoking stuff but the emphasis is on education and learning from the past to look to the future.
Marion is as friendly and helpful as everyone has mentioned and the breakfast beats any other continental type breakfast I`ve had, rooms are fine, had to queue a while for the shower if I timed it wrong and the water was cold once but who cares, this pension is great value for money with the added bonus of a superb Afghan restaurant on the bottom floor, you have to try it, never realised rice with spinach could taste so good!
Bavarian beer is everything it`s cracked up to be especially as it has to comply with the `Bavarian Purity Law of 1516`, got absolutely spannered every night but you don`t get the hangovers in the morning. Food is great everywhere and taken far more seriously than in the UK generally. The `Bavarian ticket is great value for money if you`re looking to travel for a day with a party of people of up to five, travel anywhere in Bavaria on the trains but check the buses, DB do all sorts of deals for the traveller.
All in, had a great time and would definitely go back to Pension Lindner & Bavaria for value, friendliness, food, Afghan restaurant, great churches, German organisation and common sense, proximity to everything and friendly German people for the much the greater part, they have a dry sense of humour which I appreciate.
Hope this helps anyone who`s thinking of going there.
