Was there tonight, a Friday night, with my wife and our baby. (Am still treating this as a review for a couple though!). Called up to book today, and mentioned we were bringing a baby, and the owner immediately said he'd try to give us a corner table with some more space.
We arrived, table ready, in lovely corner with space to put our baby next to us.
Nice decor: warm, but uncluttered; initimate but not in any way over the top or cheesy.
Menu: not very long, which personally I always think is a good sign for the quality of the food to come. They offered 2or 3options for starters, mains and deserts. Could order individually or choose any 3 courses with/without accompanying wine. We went for 3 courses without wine (33eur) and i picked a couple of glasses of wine for myself.
Starter: foamed coconut curry cashew and prawn soup. Delicious, and I'm not even a huge fan of coconut. I had a medium price-range glass of Riesling with this. It was very nice for the price.
Mains: entrecôte. Good sized portion, perfectly cooked to medium rare. A tiny little bit over salted for my usual taste in steak, but still definitely delicious.
I had a glass of austrian red with this (think it was Austrian anyway). Came recommended from the owner, who was also serving guests and was very nice. The wine was also very nice drinkable yet strong-enough.
My wife had fish, can't remember what type, but it was also perfectly cooked, in a buttery lemony sauce with white asparagus. Very tasty.
Dessert: we both had the standard dessert of ice cream with crepe and fruits. Although a bit of a standard recipe, the quality and result was great. The ice cream, particularly the chocolate, was excellent. Not sure if it is homemade, but in any case it is v. good quality stuff.
Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner and the atmosphere of the EssKapade, and we will definitely go back.
