Alpen Hotel Munchen

This hotel is very suitably placed, being 5 mins stroll from the Hauptbanhoff and well located for the centre. It's also only 15-20 mins to the Hofbrauhaus so who can argue with that?

Checking in was painless and the room was clean and well appointed. The bathroom was excellent and the minibar prices were quite reasonable.

Strangely for a hotel in a city, there is no bar as such but you can order drinks in the lobby and either sit in a very small 'garden' area or within the hotel.

There only seemed to be one waiter on in the restaurant in the evening and service was a bit slow, but there are plenty of excellent places in Munich within easy walking distance so I would opt for eating out.

Breakfast was fine, but there were 3 staff in the restaurant which, amazingly, improved service no end.

The one drawback to this place was the heat. It was incredibly hot in the rooms and there is no air-con. Leaving the window open would have been an option if it was not for the noise of the 'ethnically-diverse' neighbourhood nearby. So the option was - leave the window open and be subjected to loud noise for most of the night, or close the window and roast. I like my sleep so closing the window was the better option. At least unill 6am when the chap in the room next door turned his TV on and found '11' on the volume control. Fortunately, a quick call to reception solved the problem.

A nice hotel, but don't go in Summer when it's too hot, and find somewhere else for dinner.

We decided to stay in a different part of Munich for our recent short break, near the Hauptbahnhof, even though friends said this was an 'interesting' choice and winked ominously. We expected full frontal Soho, but actually it was fine, more multicultural Bayswater. Out hotel was in a side street with a Turkish watering hole opposite, which is probably the source of the noise mentioned by other reviewers. This didn't bother us at all, despite the fact I am peevishly sensitive to noise. The hotel was next to a large dance school linked to the Deutsche Theatre, and an easy walking distance from the main shopping streets and restaurants (about 5-10 minutes) and 20 minutes from Munich Zoo by underground.

The hotel staff was incredibly friendly and nothing was too much trouble. They had gone to a lot of effort with things like sweets on the pillows and free teddies for the kids, which they loved. Toys and children's books are available in the lounge on loan. Food was excellent and freshly cooked. the buffest breakfast was healthily extravegent and a joy. Beds were very comfy, even for this reviewer's dodgy back. However the rooms were slightly warm in termps of 22-30 degree during our stay (room fans or portable air conditioning units might have been helpful). The wifi was expensive but I found if you stood outside the Apple Store by the Marienplatz you got a very good signal, avoiding the need to pay roaming charges to check your email and so on.

All in all this hotel was a terrific find and we felt it represented excellent value for money for a city berak with a young family. We shall return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the courtyard

Easy walk from railway station. Quiet, comfortable room that looked out on to street, reasonable size. I like some fresh air, so opened windows, no big deal. Enjoyed fresh typical German breakfast with plenty of choice. Excellent staff. Able to walk to everything we needed, would be happy to stay here again.

This is a very nice hotel in a convenient and quiet location. We stayed two nights with friends and had a great time. The staff were very helpful and the rooms beautifully clean and well appointed. The one odd thing was that the restaurant closed on a Sunday night but the receptionist booked us a nice place to eat and ordered a taxi for us. All in all a great stay

Hotel awful. It is conveniently located in city centre. But opposite to hotel the Arabian cafe in which Arabs loudly sing songs is located and shout since morning till the late evening. Rooms in hotel very small also are badly equipped. Floors creak. Photos of rooms on a hotel site do not correspond to their actual condition. The owner of hotel does not put up money in repair and reconstruction many years. Ventilation in rooms is not present. Fresh air can arrive only through a window that in very inconveniently winter. Very bad acoustics in rooms. We well heard even quiet conversation in the next rooms and from a room above. A breakfast poor, very small choice of dishes. This hotel cannot have 4 stars. A maximum of 3 stars should be. I do not understand people to whom this hotel was pleasant. There can be it friends of the owner of hotel? Unique plus of this hotel a convenient arrangement in city centre.

Hotel location is very good, on a quiet street just two blocks from train station, and also two blocks from Stachus, where the main pedestrian street starts. Double door system in the room prevents hearing noise from the hall. Breakfast had good variety. On the negative side, my single room was a bit small.

We stayed in Alpen Hotel for two nights. One at the beginning and the other, one week later,at the end of our trip to the Italian Dolomites.
Great location,3 min walking to Munich HBF ( with direct train to Munich airport),5 min to Karlsplatz and 8-10 min to Marienplatz . Easy acess to all the Munich main sights on foot or by metro. Great value in central Munich.
The Hotel ifself is lovely,it seems more like an house, with beautiful details and lovely staff.
We had a triple room which was comfortable and very clean.
Good breakfast and great service. We had a dinner one night at the hotel restaurant and the food was very good and well priced.
I have no doubt... I will stay always in Alpen Hotel when in Munich!
