we passed Karls Gate on our way to the city center. The gates are very big and beautiful, I took some pictures and was already on my way down the street, as it is noting special to do at Karls Gate

This is one of preserved city gates in Munich and entering it from Karlsplatz you are in the interesting pedestrian street and leads to Marienplatz.
This is the western gate to Medieval Munich and walking through it you enter the pedestrianized zone the old town. We visited early in the morning and were shocked how many delivery vehicles were going in and out. I guess they allow vehicles before the stores open thinking fewer tourist. Anyways, the gate itself is a little different than the other two. This looked more stereotypical with the crenelations. I have read that this is not the exact style gate as the the tower were actually forward of the central gate. However, it is build in the same position and designed to reflect the general style of the gate.
Munich has preserved several of it’s town gates - but this my favorite. From the Karlsplatz underground station, one emerges and sees this wonder - with a beautiful fountain in front. On the other side of the “gate” the major downtown pedestrian zone starts (or ends, based on your perspective).
Worth making a point to see when in downtown Munich.
This is one of what used to be Munich's famed city wall from the medieval ages till late into the 18th century. It served as a major defensive fortification and checkpoint. It is located near Karlsplatz at the western end of Neuhauser Straße, a portion of Munich's down-town pedestrian zone. What remains today are two towers and the connecting arch with only little resemblance of the vast medieval walls and gate that formed the city main defense.
It lies just beyond the large fountains and has been well restored. Three statues stand side by side on its entrance wall but no information as to what they are. Beyond lie the various historic sites of the ancient city. A couple of the other city gates have survived or have been rebuilt and have various functions as event locations, etc.
