Karlstor (originally Neuhauser Tor (Gate), but later renamed for Prince Karl Theodore as "Karl's Gate") is one of three remaining city gates built in the 14th Century. This gate marks the beginning of the pedestrian area which extends down Neuhauserstrasse and Kaufinger Strasse to the Altes Rathaus (Old City Hall). Please note, however, that it is not all original. Part of it was renovated in the 1800's after an explosion destroyed the central tower. No matter, it still makes for good photos...and on the inside of the gate, on Neuhauserstrasse, look for the "Brunnenbuberl" a fanciful fountain, also worth a photo
