“Siegestor (Triumphal Arch)”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

Patterned after the typical Roman triumphal arches, this monument erected around 1850 was to commemorate Bavarian participation in the War of Liberation in 1814-15. Topped by bronze lions pulling a chariot, well decorated on one side, plain on the other, it's nothing to go out of your way to see...and it is sort of out of the way on Ludwigstrasse. Unless you are going to visit Ludwig's Church or check out the fancy bronze fountains at the University, you can skip the arch. But if you HAVE to see it, don't walk...take the U-Bahn.
