We visited here last July, and had booked 2 beds out of a 6bed dorm.
On arrival, we were not allowed to check in until 2pm, but this was expected and the staff were very helpful with looking after our luggage whilst we wandered around Munich until then.
The rooms were extremely clean, and the shower room was luxurious and well kept.
It's in a great location, with the centre of Munich a mere 10-15 minute walk away! And the surrounding area is pretty and quiet.
There were great facilities in the hostel including a well-priced bar, computer room, pool tables, WiFi and a lounge.
I would definitely return- it was great value for money.

I stayed there for 3 nights in early Nov last year and felt like checking out the next day. The kitchen was appalling, no detergent, no plates, no cutleries, no cups most of the time, and no oven, and there were always dirty dishes and pots in the sink.

The paid wifi was so weak that I had to use it in the hallway. At that time, renovation was going on so there was noise all the time. Every time I go down to the reception asking for something, the staff seemed very annoyed and unwillingly attended to my requests.

So I will not go back to the place again!

We purchased 2 double rooms from Booking.com thinking we were booking into the Smart Stay hostel closer to the train station, after figuring out our mistake we trudged down to this location (10 minute train ride or 10 minute walk). It turned out to be a good mistake because we ended up on the newly renovated 5th floor in some impressively quiet private rooms for a hostel. They still looked almost brand new with shiny bathrooms, loads of space in the room and a tiny flat screen tv for only 50 euros a night/room (including breakfast!). One minor downfall was the lack of ability to get wi-fi up on the 5th floor but they did have computers in the lobby area that allowed you to purchase internet time with pretty reliable internet connection.

I have to disagree with a lot of the other reviews because our room was really clean! It was very big with bunk beds and a table and chairs which came in really useful. It was really well equipped, also having a separate space with lockers, a hanging space with coat hangers and shelves. We had an en-suite which was big and clean too.
The only problem we had was that the shower was often cold in the morning, probably at peak time when most of the hostel were showering.
The hostel had a clean kitchen with lots of pans and there were computers downstairs which weren't too expensive to use. The hostel even printed out our boarding passes for the trip home free of charge.
We didn't hear any of the noise at night that the other reviews mentioned.

This is the dirtiest hostel I have ever stayed in. The kitchen was disgusting with no cleaning equipment provided so no wonder there was a huge pile of dirty pans, plates etc everywhere. On top of that the fridge smelled literally like a rubbish dump, I'm guessing the signs that say 'unsigned or out of date food will be thrown away' are just for show.

The room itself was fine when we arrived but after 4 days in a four bed dorm, no one had collected the rubbish or supplied us with more toilet paper. Even when we asked at reception, no one came. We ended up having to take toilet paper from the lobby toilet into our room.

The wifi was passable, not amazing but it was enough to handle Skype which was enough for us.

The staff were fine except for the housekeeping problem. We found all the receptionists to be friendly and helpful and spoke very good English which helped greatly.

It seemed to me that it was a lack of staff that was the problem and thus the fault of the owner. Perhaps if he spent as much money on the kitchen, laundry and housekeeping as he did on making the lobby look pretty, it would have been a nice environment.

Room Tip: Don't choose this hostel is the best advice I can give

This place was the dirtiest place we have ever stayed at. There was a gummy bear stuck to the desk. There were cigarette ashes and butts by the window (supposed to be a non-smoking hostel). The floor did not look like it was swept in days. The bed was broken on the one side so I had slept lope-sided. We had asked twice if they could have house cleaning sweep the floor, but not once did they do this. The hallways smelled. Overall the place was nasty. Who ever is in charge of cleaning should be fired. They do not know the first thing about hygiene. I can't believe that we actually paid to stay there. They should have paid us! One word - YUCK!

We stayed in a private room on the 5th floor, which was recently renovated. The hallway on the 5th floor smelled a little damp, but we didn't smell it anywhere else, so maybe they were still doing construction or something. The room didn't smell at all. It was large and there was a huge walk-in closet (which we found strange). Obviously people stay there to party (or to go to Oktoberfest), because there were signs about not throwing things out of the window and about having to pay extra if you vomit all over the room/bathroom :P So it was a little loud at night-we could hear people going out and coming in, but that's what earplugs are for. The breakfast was 4.90 Euros and included cereal, toast, rolls, and deli meats & cheeses, along with coffee/tea and juice. So pretty standard, but nothing special. The reception is open 24/7 and has maps and can be helpful if you don't know where to go. They even told me where the cheapest place to park was (on the street, you can buy a 1-day ticket for 6 Euros; otherwise you can park in their garage for 8 Euros). It was a 15-20 minute walk into the middle of the old town area of Munich. We had a good stay, but it's a hostel, so it's nothing special.
