“Simple, no frills hotel but the service is superb”
Reviewed February 14, 2014 via mobile

l booked this hotel for three nights based on its very high Tripadvisor rating, and having now stayed there it is clear that its popularity is due to the impeccable hospitality rather than on the hotel itself. This is fine if service and hospitality is top of your criteria in choosing a hotel but not if you are looking for something romantic and special.
The hotel itself is fine: it's simple, very clean, comfortable and basic.
My room was a good size, spotlessly clean, very quiet and warm thanks to the double door and triple glazing. The few pieces of classic furniture (wardrobe and desk) tried to add charm to an otherwise blank canvas of a room.
My double bed was very comfortable but l was given a single bed duvet and blanket presumably because l was on my own, which wasn't ideal. Admittedly though l didn't ask to have them changed and l am sure if l did, they would have been changed immediately without question.
My real and only true criticism with the room is that it did not have a safe and this is often a deal breaker for me. I was able to leave items locked away at reception, and the owner Sebastian did try to reassure me that in the several years he has run the hotel, there have never been any thefts. Regardless, l still would prefer a safe that l can access at any time in my room, and would suggest Sebastian put some in to the rooms.
The bathroom was very, very clean and l had no major problems with it.
Breakfast was a tad disappointing with only toast, hard boiled eggs, cereals, juices, ham and cheese on offer, but coffee is freshly made. Also service ends at 9.30am weekdays which l think is a bit early and would prefer 10am at least.
There is no particular view to be enjoyed from the hotel windows, but the location is superb, with the Nymphenberg Palace literally at the top of the road. You may think you are on the outskirts of the city here in a remote residential area, but you're not. This is a very exclusive and extremely safe area, very well connected transport-wise and easy to get to from the airport (take the S1 to Laim, no need to go into the city centre, it takes around 40mins. Then get the bus just outside the station to or just before Romanplatz and it's a short, easy walk from either). A short walk up to Romanplatz and you will find a number of small supermarkets, a post office and a tram stop that will bring you to the city centre in 15 mins.
I don't want my review to put anyone off but l want to be truthful. This is not the best hotel l have ever stayed in but the hospitality, as nearly every other review has said here, is utterly superb. I felt l was staying in Sebastian's home as a family friend. He and his wife chatted to me and treated me as though they had known me for years; friendly and informal which was lovely. I met the family dog (a lovely black labrador, but he is usually kept out of the way of guests and is very well trained) and the kids, and sometimes l felt l had intruded into their home!
This is a very homey, friendly, clean, comfortable and reasonably priced hotel. Sebastian, his wife and staff will go out of their way to help and assist and l felt l made a good choice staying here.
Recommend if you are looking for a no frills stay in Munich.

We stayed here for four nights and found it to be a comfortable, clean and reasonably priced hotel in a neighborhood on the West side of Munich. The staff were friendly and very helpful and seemed to genuinely care about our stay in Munich and at their hotel.

It is near the Nymphenberg palace which has extensive grounds that were hunting grounds when this palace was a summer villa--large enough to put together some trail running in beautiful surroundings.

When we arrived from the US our room was ready and even though it was before official checkin time we could check in and go take a nap.

On the day we left we had a night flight and the staff let us leave our bags there while we did some exploring at Marienplatz and then returned to gather our luggage and take the train to the airport.

The hotel is a ways out of the center of the city but there are a few restaurants and cafes within short walking distance. Exploring the city is easy from the hotel on the excellent public transit system. For us, the quiet location of the hotel in a residential neighborhood was a plus.

We had a very enjoyable six-night stay at this friendly little hotel. We received a lovely warm welcome from Jan, who really went the extra mile to help us out with planning what we were going to do each day. He pointed out the best way to get around the city, using trams (the 16 and 17 from nearby Romanplatz take you straight into the middle of the city in 10-12 minutes) and trains, as well as how to get to things away from the city, including Dachau and the Zugspitze (both must-sees while in Munich, each for a different reason).

The rooms were quite small but they were clean and comfortable. The breakfast each morning was nice, with a decent selection on offer, and the dining room was charming, just the like the rest of the hotel. We really enjoyed staying out of the city, as it was easy to get in when we wanted to, but the neighbourhood was nice and quiet, and it was only a short walk to Nymphenburg Palace. Highly recommended if you want a comfortable stay in a friendly hotel.

We were facianted by the location and Nimphenburg gardens and castle. The hotel's service were very helpful and guided us for best places around. Also there was a bottle of good Rioja wine awaiting us in the room. The only tiny hicup that costs one star in the ratiing is an instant coffie at the recieption bar that was served for me every morning. Dear owners, you definetly should buy a coffie machine! If you don't have breakfast included don't hesitate to pop in cafes at the Romanspltz and Winzenzmurr shop were you can always get fresh wurst and good coffie. Also a must are a very good Brasserie restaurant and famous Hirschgarden beerhouse. They are just a short walk away from the Laimer Hof. We were pleased by a convinient free parkiing. We definetly recommend this place for a stay at Munich.

P.S. Keep in mind that Romansplatz neighborhood is a 15 tram ride from the city centre. We took 7-days tickets that cost us 11 euro.

We stayed at this hotel for part of our Honeymoon, booking five days in Munich and then moving off for 6 days in Austria.

We got off the S Bahn from the airport and made our way to the tram outside the Munich Hauptbahnhof, Trams numbers 17 or 16 take you to the hotel, which takes about 10 minutes, this takes you to Romanplatz, from there its a 5 minute walk to the hotel. Or you can take the S Bahn from Munich to Laim and from there its about 10 minutes walk to the hotel. Or you can pay for a taxi.

From Romanplatz the shortest route to the hotel if you're walking is by going right down Romanstrabe pasted the Hospital following the road round to Zuccalistrabe turning left into LaimerStrabe, overall it's about a 5 mins walk.
When you go into the city you can either get off at the Haupbahnhof or go to Karlplatz which is in the main shopping area leading to MarienPlatz.

The hotel is in the middle of a very quiet residential area, when we got there and the staff spoke very good English. We were shown up to our room and a member of staff helped us up with our heavy luggage. There room was on the second floor. ( so if your going to find that you need a lift ect, read the hotel web page first, it will save a lot of complaints after the fact that the hotel had no lift. :0

The room was very clean warm, it had a double bed with the usual split continental mattresses, and a TV with one English movie channel. No kettle , but we had brought our own travel kettle

The breakfast were again continental and lots of variety, from meats cheeses, cereals. eggs, yogurts ect ect. again the staff spoke good English.
In the evening the steps upto the hotel were lit up with candles, very romantic.

The 5 day stay was just what we wanted, just outside the busy centre of Munich.
If you want somewhere cheap to eat there is a little chinese about 5 minutes away from the Hotel called Saigon Imbiss, you can have your food cooked in front of you, you can either eat in or take away, probably one of the best Chinese food we have tasted. Next door is Tony's bar.

Places we visited were Nymphenburg Palace 5 minute walk, Hofbrauhaus, Hard Rock Café, opposite the Hofbrauhaus, and what we thought was a fantastic experience the Hamam Turkish Sauna on Mathildenstrabe, Munich.

Room Tip: We were in room 25

Hotel Laimer Hof is one of the best places we have stayed...Being a nervous American, all the staff helped us with everything from the S-ban travel to getting tickets for events we wanted to do. Jan & Jeff were so kind and helpful. The hotel itself is charming, in a cute neighborhood and all around just sweet! Our only regret was that Sebastian & Alexandra were out of town at a concert! We hope to come back to Munich one day and we will stay here again!
thank you so much!!

This hotel is so cute and is run by a family and has a real family feel. The rooms are a bit small, but we did ask for an extra bed to be squeezed in, so really our fault. There were a few small issues (like trouble with the hot water) but it was very full and understandable. Also, they instantly came to our rescue whenever we had a problem, with a smile. We loved the location, the staff and the whole experience. Thanks so much!
