l booked this hotel for three nights based on its very high Tripadvisor rating, and having now stayed there it is clear that its popularity is due to the impeccable hospitality rather than on the hotel itself. This is fine if service and hospitality is top of your criteria in choosing a hotel but not if you are looking for something romantic and special.
The hotel itself is fine: it's simple, very clean, comfortable and basic.
My room was a good size, spotlessly clean, very quiet and warm thanks to the double door and triple glazing. The few pieces of classic furniture (wardrobe and desk) tried to add charm to an otherwise blank canvas of a room.
My double bed was very comfortable but l was given a single bed duvet and blanket presumably because l was on my own, which wasn't ideal. Admittedly though l didn't ask to have them changed and l am sure if l did, they would have been changed immediately without question.
My real and only true criticism with the room is that it did not have a safe and this is often a deal breaker for me. I was able to leave items locked away at reception, and the owner Sebastian did try to reassure me that in the several years he has run the hotel, there have never been any thefts. Regardless, l still would prefer a safe that l can access at any time in my room, and would suggest Sebastian put some in to the rooms.
The bathroom was very, very clean and l had no major problems with it.
Breakfast was a tad disappointing with only toast, hard boiled eggs, cereals, juices, ham and cheese on offer, but coffee is freshly made. Also service ends at 9.30am weekdays which l think is a bit early and would prefer 10am at least.
There is no particular view to be enjoyed from the hotel windows, but the location is superb, with the Nymphenberg Palace literally at the top of the road. You may think you are on the outskirts of the city here in a remote residential area, but you're not. This is a very exclusive and extremely safe area, very well connected transport-wise and easy to get to from the airport (take the S1 to Laim, no need to go into the city centre, it takes around 40mins. Then get the bus just outside the station to or just before Romanplatz and it's a short, easy walk from either). A short walk up to Romanplatz and you will find a number of small supermarkets, a post office and a tram stop that will bring you to the city centre in 15 mins.
I don't want my review to put anyone off but l want to be truthful. This is not the best hotel l have ever stayed in but the hospitality, as nearly every other review has said here, is utterly superb. I felt l was staying in Sebastian's home as a family friend. He and his wife chatted to me and treated me as though they had known me for years; friendly and informal which was lovely. I met the family dog (a lovely black labrador, but he is usually kept out of the way of guests and is very well trained) and the kids, and sometimes l felt l had intruded into their home!
This is a very homey, friendly, clean, comfortable and reasonably priced hotel. Sebastian, his wife and staff will go out of their way to help and assist and l felt l made a good choice staying here.
Recommend if you are looking for a no frills stay in Munich.
