My wife and I stayed at this hotel March 7th through the 10th. This hotel was easy enough to get to via the S-bahn from the airport and is only a 10 minute away from Marienplatz. The owners are very friendly and helpful with directions. A typical German breakfast (rolls, coldcuts, juice, cereal, milk) was served each morning which gave a good start to the day.
The room was simple and comfortable. The bathroom was a bit tight, but manageable.
In my travels I look for a simple, clean, conveniently located place to sleep. This is it. Why spend more when you will be spending most of your time in the various beer halls anyway? : )
The hotel was very convenient to Marienplatz as well as to the other tourist places. Unfortunately we got a room that faced the street which was a bit noisy in the morning when all the trucks made their deliveries. The bathroom was the smallest one we've seen anywhere! Other than these two complaints, we had a pleasant stay at the hotel. We would definitely stay there again the next time we visit Munich.
Stayed at this hotel based on recommendation from a Rick Steve's travel book. The hotel was clean, small and very bare bones. The location, however, is very good. 5 minute walk to old town square. No elevator and we were on the 3rd floor with large suitcases. They did not give us our wake up call as they promised so we almost missed our flight. The room was inexpensive and as the old saying goes - you get what you pay for". Also, restaurant was not open for breakfast or dinner when we were there so don't depend on that for you dining needs.
This hotel was very nice, but not recommended for those who are afraid of stairs. The staff was very nice and the value was great. We stayed in the non-smoking room and had no problem, unlike what I have read from fellow travellers.
The Hotel Muenchner Kindl is a great base for your stay in Munich. It is conveniently located in the heart of the city, less than 5 minutes from a metro stop and 10-15 minutes from the train station and all the sites in the pedestrian zone. The staff is friendly and they speak English. The rooms are small and simple, but impeccably clean. I booked three non-smoking doubles for our stay, and we were given one on each of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd floors (remember that in Europe, 1st floor = 1 flight up). The 1st and 2nd floor rooms looked recently renovated, and the bathrooms were immaculate. The 3rd floor bathroom was older, but also clean. Noise and light from the street (the curtains do not block the light out sufficiently) can be a problem if you have trouble sleeping; closing the windows helped a lot, but it may be more of an issue in the summer. Breakfast was typically German, and was sufficient but not amazing: rolls and bread with cold cuts, cheese, jam, butter, etc., along with some muesli, fruit, juice, and coffee or tea. But for a combination of price, location, and cleanliness, this hotel is a winner.
