My wife and I rented bicycles and had a great time riding around the park which is quite large. On a sunny day it is a great place to sunbathe and have a picnic. Of course grabbing a beer and lunch there at the Chinese pavilion ain't bad either. Take a swim suit and jump in the river. Be warned though that the current is very strong and it is impossible to stand because of the current. Watch other people first to see where they get out. Only for good swimmers. Surfing also possible and great fun to watch.

My husband and I visited the english garden in the middle of a heat wave and it was like ibiza in there..you could almost smell the hormones, would be great growing up there with such a brilliant open space at your disposal, however i would say in the summer it seems a place for the young to hang out quite literally, my poor husband has never pointed at so many interesting things in trees trying not to look at the young women, there are others in the garden that i doubt showed such restraint, there were quite a few older men wearin sunglasses!! The fast moving river looks a great laugh, it was full of german teenagers being carried god knows where, and its not really a garden ..its huge and very beautiful, worth a visit.

The park is very large and great for a leisurely walk. We sat by the river and watched people, dogs and birds. It was a very calming place after visiting museums and the crowded Marienplatz.

At dinner in Barcelona we met a friendly group from Munich who suggested we visit the English Garden. We're so glad we took their advice!

It was a lovely, sunny day. After seeing the Rathaus-Glockenspiel, we walked to the English Garden with the intention of a short visit before grabbing a bite to eat. 'A park is a park' was the attitude we had as we ventured from the crowded Marienplatz area. Wrong! The English Garden is a place to enjoy a relaxing walk through a myriad of different park settings. The tranquil, natural beauty combined with the relaxed, but fun atmosphere of all the visitors was a welcome respite before our return trip to the States the next morning. If we were to do it over I would have allotted more time here (perhaps renting a bike to explore more of it, while saving our feet). And be sure to look for the surfers on the river!
