If you enjoy visiting churches then you must go and see this. Small scale but looking at all the details would fill hours ! The restoration was done very sensitively and will hopefully this gem will be there for generations to come.

The Asam Church is one of the finest examples of late German Baroque architecture. It has 12 rows of pews for a small family congregation. The interiors are covered with frescoes painted by Cosmas Damian Asam. A lavish fresco in the ceiling portrays the drowning of Saint Nepomuk. The high altar has four twisted columns with a glass shrine containing a wax figure of Saint Nepomuk. There is a beautiful sculpture depicting God the father bending over the crucified Christ in the cornice. The interior ornamentation today is the result of careful restoration between the years 1975 and 1982. Don't missed this place, it's a must and Awesome...!

“One of the best church in Munich!!”
Reviewed August 7, 2013 via mobile

Decided to have a look at this church based on TA's reviews and we were definitely not disappointed!

It's not really a big church and at first look rather different to other churches we have seen as it is in the middle of a row of shops and buildings. In fact, one can be forgiven if he or she did not notice the just on first sight.

However, once inside, you will be completely blown away by the decor and art as they are pretty elaborated.

It is a truly beautiful church that is definitely worth visiting. The ancient roman gate, Sendlinger Tor is neaeby too so perhaps visit both attractions at the same time but you definitely won't want to miss the Asam's church if you are in Munich!

“over the top”

small, extraordinarily ornate church, a must-see and doesn't take very long at all as it's right in the center of the town. It's nice how many things you can see in Munich so close together.

“Don't Get Fooled by big churches”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

Go, look, be amazed. How can so much be packed into a tiny space? I don't know. Just go. I have never seen a church so filled with stuff.
