“Nice hotel great location”
Reviewed August 11, 2012 via mobile

6/10 - decent midrange hotel.

Plus points

1. Nice rooms with blonde wood floors and fresh light decor (lots of mid-range hotels seem cluttered with ugly and tired furniture but none of that here). Ours was a very good size too (number 34 - judging from the other reviews this may have been a superior room).
2. Good breakfast.
3. Some really good places to ea and drink nearby (the low lit chic Theresa restaurant just round the corner has really fantastic quality steaks and excellent wines)
4. Round the corner from the museums which do a day pass so great for popping in and back (there's a huge amount of art there so that's pretty handy).
5. Good double glazing so quiet.
6. Free wifi

Negatives

1. Bad first impressions - rooms and breakfast area have been done up but stairs and other common areas faded and cheap. The management needs to invest in upgrading these bits
2.'Notwithstanding decor comment above some slightly odd furnishings that had a bit of mix and don't match feel.
3.'Perhaps 5-10% overpriced.
4. Plumbing can be a little noisy

I was suddenly forced to abandon DAS HOTEL in MUNICH due to poor sanitary conditions of the 'room': in reality, a cramped hot attic with a smelly old carpet and...'nice' guests: several insects (like fleas or lice) on the bed and in the bathroom. Having already closed the front desk (closing time at 21!) it was possible to complain to the staff just in the morning, after a terrible sleepless night. Staff after the initial embarrassment had a cocky attitude minimizing the incident. At my request to cancel was therefore demanded payment of the night passed! After that I moved in a rush into another hotel! In few words: avoid this hotel!

I booked a single room relatively late in this Munich hotel and found a pleasant surprise all round. I was there to attend the Champions League football final. The hotel, located in the university area of the city, close to the centre, is somewhat old to the eye, but absolutely spotless and comfortable. The friendly staff know what they have and make the best of it for their customers. Breakfast was especially pleasant with everybody’s needs accounted for. The room was small, but comfortable with some nice touches such as a free bottle of mineral water and that welcome biccy ;-). I would go back and highly recommend this modest, but friendly establishment.

I stayed at the Das hotel for a couple of days in December. The Hotel entrance is at the side of the street and the lobby is on the first floor. I found it to be a bit of a problem since i was carrying 2 big peices of luggage. There is a lift on the ground floor that takes you the lobby but it's quite small and once igot my 2 peices of luggage inside there was no space for anyone else to fit in. The check in was smooth and i was in my room in 5 mins. Now coming to the room, its quite small its like narrow corridor. There was no cupboard to put my stuff but instead there was mid sized chest. With two luggae peices on the floori literally was hopping over it if i had to go to the other side of the room. The shower and the bath are detached. The walls are paperthin and you can actually hear the flush in the other room. But you kinda get used to it after some time. The shower was decent with hot water. No english channels on their cable. Their buffet breakfast is very good with a huge spread. In terms of staff friendliness it was top notch. The staff were more than ready to help and are quite patient when it comes to answering your queries or doubts.Room service was also quick when i asked for extra towels. Everyone speaks English so no worries there :-)
The location is bang on. Its on university street and its filled with a lot of pubs and restaurants. Lots of students around. The metro is just 7 mins walk from the Hotel and marienplatz is just two stations away. Overall in terms of location its perfect.
So woulld i recommend it? I think they are maybe over priced by 10 - 15 euros. It would VFM then. Also considering the size of the room if i was with my partner then it would get really cramped. But in terms of customer service, location and the breakfast buffet i think they are right there on the top.

Overall i would give it a 6.5/10

Das Hotel in München (old name Hotel Stefanie) is a cozy and affordable hotel. It is located close to the the university areas North of the city center. Marienplatz is about 15 min by foot. Of all hotels in this area I have been in, Das Hotel has on of the best price-quality ratios. The economy rooms are very small, but there is everything you need. The rooms are clean and renovated. The street side of the hotel may be noisy in the evenings because of bars nearby. There was no noise if the window is closed, but since there is no air conditioning, you may need to keep the window open.
The breakfast is much better than in most German hotels of the same price range. There is a real coffee machine, where you can drink as much Cappuccino, Espresso or Macchiato as you like.
There is a free wifi connection. TV does not have any international channels.
The lobby area is cozy and the staff is very friendly.

Room Tip: Choose the court yard side.

Staff very nice and helpful, breakfast very good, centrally situated on a very pleasant street, which is full of cafes and nice shops. Close to the Art Galleries, which are superb. Tram and subway services first class.
We weren't too keen on the basic room, which has a tiny shower room, with a cheap folding plastic door.
We saw the next standard room up, which is very good indeed for the money (120 Euros), considering the good situation of the hotel.
The toilets are a bit noisy, I admit.
We will return!

Room Tip: Go for the DZ "Individual" rooms - I think individual means better quality, in this contex...
