“A really good hotel, close to the train station”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 19, 2013

This is was a gem of a hotel! It was close to the train station - but was very quiet and clean. It is on a side street, away from the hustle and bustle of the nearby streets. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. A large shower - maybe the largest on our trip! Breakfast was really good! We are vegan and there were many options for us! The coffee was nice and strong. They have a 1 pm check in but let us store our bags and come back for check in. We had to leave early on the day of our departure and they let us have breakfast 30 minutes early - which was so nice!! We recommend this hotel!

My friends and I stayed here for one night during Oktoberfest and we were very pleased with this hotel. It is such an adorable and quaint hotel. We absolutely loved it. It is just a few blocks from the train station and within walking distance of the city center. It's also within walking distance to Oktoberfest, which was very nice. The rooms are small, but clean. There are only stairs in the hotel, no elevators, which didn't bother us at all. The breakfast in the morning was great. We enjoyed our stay here very much. The next time I am back, we will be staying here again.

It locates at a convenient location which is very close to the train station and the main tourist area, Karlplatz. We booked a quadraple room. The room is clean but not very spacious. Staff are nice. Breakfast is good. Price is reasonable. Many fast food shops nearby. The bad thing is that it is next to a strange look hotel and casino. Our room is facing the front where there may be noise at night from time to time. There is no elevator. No water heater inside the room.

We stayed at Hotel Eder for 4 nights on a recent trip to Munich and found it to be clean, comfortable and very conveniently located - it's a very short walk from the central train station, local trams and subway, and the old town of Munich. There are heaps of good cafes, restaurants and take-away shops nearby, a laundromat just around the corner and there's a REWE supermarket not far. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the hotel is very reasonably priced. We spent 1 night in a double room at the back of the hotel and then had to move rooms for the remaining 3 nights as the hotel was fully booked (we knew this when we booked). The first room we were in was at the back of the building and was MUCH larger and quieter than the second room we had, so it's important to be aware that not all their rooms are the same. If, for example, you're travelling in summer and want to sleep with the window open (there's no air-conditioning so you most likely WILL need to open the window!), it would be best to ask for a room at the back of the building where street noise won't be an issue (the room we had at the front of the building was very noisy). In cooler months when you can keep the windows closed overnight this may not be such a concern. Similarly if you need a bigger room for whatever reason, make sure you ask for one of their big rooms - the second room we got was about two-thirds the size of the first one. Breakfast in the mornings is good but not amazing - there's a selection of hams, salami, cheeses, breads, cereals, coffee, tea, etc. Overall though the hotel was a good base from which to explore Munich and we would definitely recommend it if you're looking for a well-priced place to stay close to everything.

I was traveling by myself backpacking so I was looking for an affordable hotel in a central location, easily reached from the train station but still close to the historical center. Hotel Eder was perfect for my needs. The main attractions were probably a 10-15 minute walk. The room was plain, but very clean. The breakfast was pretty good. I would definitely go back.

We stayed three nights at the Hotel Eder at the end of July 2013. After a short train ride from the airport we were able to walk to the hotel from the train station located at the center of the city of Munich. We found the hotel very comfortable. We had 4 people in our room which was comfortable and clean. The atmosphere was authentic and relaxing. We enjoyed the bountiful breakfast each morning.
The staff was nice and cheerful.
The only negative was that it is very hot in late July in Munich and there is no air conditioning in the Hotel Eder, like many of the European hotels. A fan was provided for some of the rooms (my brother and his family stayed here as well and they had a rotating fan) but they were out of them when we requested one. I would suggest that the management purchase more fans so all their guests could be more comfortable.

Let's start with the pluses: very reasonable rates in a very expensive city, short walk into town, well-designed, recently refurbished and immaculately clean rooms, friendly staff and decent breakfast (wouldn't call it great - for that I would, for example have liked fresh, rather than tinned fruit salad) that is included in the room price.
Two things I wasn't so keen on - and that people might want to bear in mind. The area, around the corner from the main station, isn't the most attractive. Next door, for example, there is a shabby-looking casino, one street down sex shops, etc. Nothing worrying or dodgy, just not too pleasant. There seems to be some recent development plan for this area though, so maybe this will improve in the near future.
The other thing that particularly bothered me was night-time noise. The sound-proofing onto the street, which some people here have brought up, is actually really good (if you don't mind sleeping with windows closed), but this is an old building, with authentic creaky floorboards. If you are unlucky and your upstairs neighbour has a sleep schedule different to your own (i.e. comes back in the middle of the night and decides to walk around his room for an hour and a half) not even earplugs will (or did in my case) help.
So: if you are a sound sleeper and on a budget - look no further. Otherwise, mark my words.
