Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski Munchen
Ranked #18 of 390 Hotels in Munich
Certificate of Excellence

I know it's all about opinions but boy some people are picky. The hotel doesn't deserve the recent poor reviews.

The Kempinski is a grand hotel type of establishment in an historic building and the decor reflects that. It absolutely does not need a refurb as suggested. To tart up a hotel of that type and smother it's origins would be vandalism. If you were determined to find signs of wear, had nothing better to do and looked hard enough I'm sure you'd find something. Otherwise, the hotel is fine.

The location is spectacularly good being pretty much central for everything. We went during Oktoberfest and were able to walk or cycle to all venues.

We stayed in an executive room which was typical city hotel size and the decor was acceptable without being elaborate. The TV wasn't flatscreen which I suppose would bother some people. It hardly mattered as most stations were German or Arabic.

The staff were excellent and gave 5 star standard of service even though it was a busy week. They were friendly, helpful and informal.

Like many grand hotels, the Kempinski had an interesting mix of visitors.

We felt has if we were at a different hotel to the reviews. We enjoyed it anyway.

I am a private concierge member of the kempinsi, which is their top status awarded to frequent travellers. I was utterly disappointed with my stay at this property, both in terms of service which was appalling, as well as the room which was horrible. For a hotel room costing 400 euros per night, there is negative value for money here and I would not go back. The size of the room was tiny, it had a strange smell, and the door was rattling all night long. After I called in the morning to report the problem before another guest has the same problem, I did not even get a phone call from the front office manager or supervisor to apologize.
The only thing going for this hotel is the location.

I used to live in Munich and dreamed of staying at this most prestigious of hotels - what an utter disappointment! Our bags were taken to the wrong room and there were other peoples bags placed into ours - after our room not being ready on arrival. It was raining cats n dogs yet when our room was not ready there was no offer of a complimentary cup of tea after a long trip, although we were lent an umberella. Our room was "nice" clean but fairly basic - think holiday inn - not what i would expect when a two night stay is costing well over a grand with parking and breakfast adding the cost of a cheap hotel room to each nights stay!!!! -

The room service menu is also totally uninspiring and over priced.

The location on maximillian strasse is amazing, one member of staff redeemed a little of the poor service by finding me a cup of sweet tea and some sympathy when I was struck with flu on day two but in general for the first time I was almost bought to tears as a hotel failed to live up to its reputation in a mirriad of ways. I have stayed in various hotels in Munich all much less expensive and all much better!

having not written a review for some time. This hotel is GHASTLY in almost every respect. To be entirely fair, I will say that it's location is good if you want to do some high end shopping while in town and it is well situated for some of the major sights. Great. But the front desk is staffed by a bunch of frosty (mostly) women and the concierges are equally lofty and hopelessly ill-informed. Having enquired about the opening times for the Lenbachhaus, we slogged over there by cab to find that the place had been shut for refurbishment for several months - this is a mere example of their ineptitude. As for the room that we were allocated - what a disappointment. A junior suite at 595 Euros (cheap in the Kempinski stellar price range) would have been about acceptable at a Best Western - there you know what to expect. The room was creaking with age - filthy carpet, curtains that wouldn't pull properly, two antique television sets neither of which functioned adequately unless you like watching a blizzard and don't want a movie (I did) and a total lack of co-operation if you try and tackle the problems. I had to virtually wrestle the wretched woman behind the desk to get a discount on the price, which she, with very bad grace, finally agreed. One day, having requested that they organised the tv to be repaired during a 5 hour window while I was out footslogging round the sights, I came back to my room exhausted wanting a shower, room service and a movie, I ended up with no shower, 2 big burly electricians tramping round the room (to no avail) and a cold toasted cheese sandwich to eat. If I can in any way encourage you to stay elsewhere i would be delighted and so would you be. We've always stayed at the Bayerischer Hof before but because of a conference we chose to stay on the spot. Big Mistake.

I had high expectations for this hotel, but was disappointed. The hotel has a beautiful lobby and restaurant and the respective staff was great. However, the rooms themselves were all terribly small and the cleanliness and housekeeping weren't up to par. Also, no wireless internet in the rooms and very expensive. There was wireless in the lobby, but not in the restaurant. The pool and gym are good. Oh, and only one towel in the shower, even though I asked for more than one ... I guess they figure a solo traveler only needs on towel!

I came to this hotel for a 3 days conference. Everything was simply very high standard. The room was nice but a bit old, staffs was very friendly and competent. Bathroom was extremely comfortable. The negative point was the overpriced mini-bar.

Normally Leading Hotels have an excellent standard in all room categories, but not
the Vier Jahreszeiten. Standard in 3* Hotels are much better and the answer from
the management, you should choose a better categorie is very snobish. There are some better hotels in munich as this hotel.
