“Second visit as good as the first”
Reviewed September 17, 2012

My wife and I stayed here for the second time at the start of September and found it still to be good value for money. We stayed for 7 nights and booked through Expedia meaning we god a very good deal with the flights also included.

The hotel is decorated in a very traditional rural Bavarian style. The rooms aren't outstanding, but they're very good for providing a base in the city, and the beds and lovely bedding are really comfortable. There don't seem to be any comfy chairs in the rooms, so we did spend most of the time laid on the bed, but that is pretty much the only downside I can find in the accomodation stakes.

The cleaners are all really friendly, and will come back to your room later if you fancy a lie-in and have the sign on the door (a bonus for us!). The hotel staff are all extremely friendly and informative, and can't do enough for you. Due to our early flights, we were 2.5 hours early for the 2pm check in, but the manager was happy to store all our baggage for us whilst we wandered to get a coffee and some lunch in the city.

There is a lovely bar in the reception area which is cosy to sit in for a nightcap. The breakfast isn't included in the room rate, but it is very good. There is a really nice amount of choice - not overwhelming, just enough - and the atmosphere isnt too formal. Plus the quality of the food is very good, so it really is worth a trip down, especially if you are going off on an excursion for the day.

It was very hot both times we visited, and I didn't realise last time that the hotel is happy to provide a fan for your room. We were very thankful of this as it does get quite noisy with the window open.

Excellent location too - near enough to the centre to walk on a nice day, or a 10 minute tram ride/train ride. Only a 2 minute walk to the tram stop, or 5 minutes to the train station. There is a really nice supermarket just across from the hotel called Tengelmann, and a Lidl a 10 minute walk away, so it's really convenient for stocking up on bottled drinks you may want in the room/on days out.

I would definitely recomment the Hahn Hotel.

Room Tip: The hotel offers smoking and non smoking rooms. We had non-smoking, and there was no smell in any pa...

We spent three nights at Hotel Hahn in August, 2012, during a very hot spell. We stayed on the second floor, and our room (which faced the main street) was always cooler that the outside temperature. With the help of a small fan, offered by the front desk, we were able to whether the heat. The hotel offers a nice breakfast buffet, and cooks eggs to order each morning (a nice +).
Traditional Bavarian appointments were pleasant and appealing. Front desk staff most curteous.
For the price, you can't go wrong.

My husband and I stayed for three nights in mid-August. Like most European rooms, it was small - but we spent most of our time sight seeing and enjoying Munich - so it wasn't a problem for us. The bed was comfortable and the room was nicely decorated. The window opened, so we were able to cool off at night (no air conditioning). The bathroom was small; but adequate. There was some traffic noise at night and the curtains let in quite a bit of light. I usually travel with ear plugs and sleeping mask, so this was not a problem for me. The breakfast was excellent! The staff spoke good English and were patient with the little German we spoke. The bar/lounge located in the hotel was nice for a last beer before turning in for the night. This hotel is within easy walking distance of a train/bus stop and takes only a few minutes to reach Central Munich - which is also in walking distance - if you don't mind about a 20 min. walk. We would stay again.

Just returned from a week's stay @ the Hahn and felt obligated to post about our experience.
My husband and I stayed there on our honeymoon almost 20 years ago and had such a lovely time, it seemed the natural choice to return to when we were planning on taking the kids to Germany this summer.
We had the pleasure of staying in the "large family suite" which is a two story loft, with two bathrooms. Obviously, much thought was put into the layout of the suite...it sleeps 6, but we were a family of 4, so there was ample room for us and all of our stuff. When I travel, I like to NOT live out of my suitcase. I like to make our room feel like home as much as possible by unpacking our bags and hiding them away until I have to pack to leave. The Hahn provided an incredible amount of space to hang clothes as well as store folded clothes. Housekeeping was immaculate and unobtrusive. They never once knocked to ask if they could service the room. They just waited until we handed in our key before they came in to do their magic. Yes, I said hand in our key.
The Hahn is legit, old-school, true Bavaria here folks. For those people who criticize the "kitsch" all I can ask is, "do you find fault with the decorating when you visit a friend's home?" Staying at the Hahn is the equivalent of staying with family while visiting Munich. There are hotels for people who want their laundry done, shoes polished, while they are at the spa having a massage. Everyone has a different opinion of what "vacation" is. We wanted to expose our kids to AUTHENTIC German culture and the Hahn did not disappoint.
The staff were all lovely...everyone at the front desk spoke English and were extremely helpful. We could even buy our tram/train/bus ticket there. We used the free wi-fi in our room for 7 days on all devices {iPad/iphone/laptop} at all times of the day/night {jet lag!} and never once dropped or could not connect. Breakfast was quite satisfactory, complete with meats, cheeses, breads, yogurt, fruit, and all the nutella you could eat. Eggs done the way you like were offered as well. If you left the breakfast table hungry it was your own fault.
The location could not have been better for a family traveling without a car. One block to the tram stop which was the key to Munich. 2~3 blocks walk to the Augustiner brewery complete with rooftop beer garden. Grocery store a block away with anything you could need. Safe, clean neighborhood...thankfully not in the heart of the city {away from the street performers/tourist traps/and for lack of a better word, homeless people.} but you could be in the heart of the city in less than 10 minutes effortlessly.
We loved the Hahn. The only thing I would change is updating the climate control in the loft. While sleeping with the windows open is pretty neat and again, authentic European, it can be a little noisy. Also, if you have to close the windows during a rain storm, it can get stuffy.
I'm smiling as I write recalling the wonderful time we had in Germany, and the Hotel Hahn made a wonderful impression on us, and more importantly our kids. {age 9 and 13} It is an absolute gem of a hotel!!

I see other reviews have commented on small room size, but assuming you didn't come to Munich to spend all your time in the room that shouldn't matter too much. The rooms are sparkling clean as are the modern bathrooms. One couldn't ask for a more helpful, friendly staff. They are happy to answer any question you may have and help you with travel plans. The breakfast is ample and delicious, and there is a nice bar area for relaxing in the evening. Several decent restaurants are in the neighborhood. The hotel is right on the S-bahn, so you have quick and easy access to all Munich has to offer without having to deal with the noise of being more centrally located.

A clean and comfortable hotel, slightly out of the centre of town. It is a traditional bavarian styled hotel and represents good value for money. The rooms are an acceptable size, clean and comfortable. The shower was powerful and there was plenty of hot water.

Access to the city centre is excellent with an S-Bahn station within in 5 minutes walk and a tram stop within 2 minutes of the hotel entrance.

Also worth noting that you have the brilliant Augustiner Braustbn approximately 10 minutes walk along Landsbergerstrasse towards the city centre.

I will certainly stay here again when I visit Munich and would recommend it.

This is a very basic hotel. What mattered most, clean bed, and clean bathroom. The rooms are quite small and the bathroom even smaller. The hotel is decorated in pine wood and has a true Bavarian look to it, not that i really care as i only go to the room when i'm about to sleep, but thought i'd mention it for other travelers who might care. The clerks at the desk were friendly and helpful. There is a great bakery just down the street (in front of the tram stop, which will take you anywhere) where we would eat breakfast every morning. At the time we stayed there, the hotel began offering free wireless internet which is a huge plus. I could stay there again but i'd probably seek a hotel with bigger rooms. Overall this is not a bad hotel, just basic and small.
