“Genuine Family Run Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2011

We stayed for a few nights during Oktoberfest. The hotel is in walking / crawling distance from Oktoberfest and during our stay here we even walked to the City Centre and English Garden from here, although we did get the underground back. We would like to return here again one day, when both the prices are slightly less and more reflective of this type of well run family hotel (Oktoberfest Rates - you cannot get a room in Munich late in Sept, so you cannot blame them). Overall, I'd prefer to give the Hahn's my custom rather than a faceless multi-national, and we will be back one day.

We stayed 3 nights at the Hahn Hotel in June, and were overall very pleased. As other reviewers have noted, it's kitschy, with traditional-style furnishings in the very small rooms. However it was still thoughtfully presented, with plenty of places to store clothes and luggage, and decent wi-fi and cable television.

On the whole the staff was very helpful, even if they didn't exude friendliness. I appreciated the nice new bar in the lobby, which had some great wine and Augustiner beer on tap. They are happy to let you buy bottles to take up to your room as well. They even provide umbrellas to use in the lobby! The only bad part of the experience was trying to use a U.S. Armed Forces VAT form when checking out - they had apparently never dealt with these forms before and were suspicious we were trying to rip them off. But then again, we really should have asked when we checked in if they accepted them, so it was partially our mistake.

On the whole we enjoyed our experience here and would consider returning given the price (A little over 70 Euro/night). Be aware the hotel is a good 15-20 minutes to the center of town, but it's only a 15 minute walk to the famed and fantastic Augustiner Brauhaus and a 10 minute tram ride to the train station.

Spent one night here. Very nice cutesy Bavarian style common areas, rooms a bit plain but clean and perfectly fine. It's a bit out from the centre but on a main road and frequent trams straight into the centre. The hotel sells great value travel cards for public transport. Parking fairly easy - the yard is tight but it's free after 6 on the road outside. Very nice helpful staff all round. Storming value.

Munich is a beautiful city and has a great sense of culture. The wooden decor, the fraulein with blue dresses and a cleavage largesse, this city has to be the most stereotypical German city. Having said that, decor and stereotype should be left at the museums, beer halls and wider bavaria. This kind of kitch has no place in hotels.

I was travelling for business and staying in munich for a couple of nights. with a client in the area, i was recommended the Hotel Hahn, i.e. Cock or Chicken Hotel. I cannot blame the hotel for this, it wasn't their fault. The client on the other hand, should be ashamed.

The rooms are small and basic. The a/c was louder than the music in my headphones, the bed hard and the small wooden table/desk would have been better suited in a bavarian farm house in the 80s. The constant barrage of chicken paraphernalia was too much and this overdone style is something the German community seems more expert at than most. Put it down to taste.

From a business point of view, the internet didnt work and despite ongoing promises from the family style staff, it wasnt fixed on the first day. I had asked to be relocated if it didnt work within 2 hours and didnt even receive a courtesy call. There were a couple of english channels on the TV which i had turned up to drown out the construction work in the alley and poor A/C unit.

The breakfast was ok, though having the waitress serving a boiled egg in an outfit that was surely a hand-me-down from the Octoberfest tents in the 80s was again too much for this business man to handle.

The service did improve and the owner, Mr Hahn (i assume) was helpful in securing me a taxi for the departure.

The bill, whilst not massive was also way overpriced for the offering.

I guess if you're in Munich for a week end of wood and Weizenbeer on a short break, you may be able to handle the Hahn, though if you're on business, its not a solution for you.

Sorry family Hahn, though you have to train the people you work with to service customers better and invest in inftrastructure. the 80s were fun, though they're over.

love in travel

This is a traditional Bavarian family-run place that I would recommend to anyone. It's comfortable and reasonably priced, only 10 minutes from the central station, yet quiet, and full of local charm. The staff are friendly and (should you need it) speak very good English. There's a tram stop less than 5 minutes away, and an S-Bahn only a little further.

My colleague and I stayed at the Hotel Hahn for two nights whilst attending a trade show. The location was ideal and the metro station was just a few minutes walk over the bridge. Admittedly, the single rooms were small but they were clean, comfortable and functional. The bed was fine, very clean sheets and the bathroom came with a a hairdryer. The staff were very friendly and the breakfast was good. The hotel was very reasonably priced and we intend to book again for next year.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights last week. The Hahn Hotel has great family-run Bavarian atmosphere and clean cozy rooms. The service is extemely friendly, helpful, and accomodating. The price is definitely attractive. Buffet style breakfast is well worth the E8 and offers eggs cooked to order, meats, cheeses, juices, cereals, breads, yogurts, fruit, and much more to choose from. A computer with internet is provided in the lobby free of charge. Wifi is available in the rooms (not sure if its free)

The location is semi-residential with many decent restaraunts in the area. These are more affordable than if you ate in the Altstadt (old-city centre). There is a tram stop to the city-centre, where all the attractions are, or anywhere else in the city, only half a block away. Not five minutes as some say, maybe one or two at most. the ride to the city centre takes only minutes. This is a very easy transportation system to use and the locals are always willing to help, and seem to always offer even before you ask!

We only suggest asking for a room overlooking the courtyard, and not the busy street , as it can be very noisy. Five days is more than enough to see everything in Munich, so our next stop was the town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber and we also recommend seeing this small town as it is perhaps the most amazing place we have ever seen. A day trip will not do, go there for at least 2-3 full days.
