“Excellent pieces”
Reviewed August 16, 2014

We visited only this building because they were restoring the old one. However we like it a lot since it had selected paintings of famous painters of the 18th century and on.Don't miss it while in Munich!

“Excellent Collection of Late 19th, Early 20th Century”
Reviewed August 14, 2014

Munich really has enough art museums to warrant at least a week's stay if one wants to go to them all. Unfortunately, we only had four days. Still, one can purchase a several-day ticket that covers most of them. It's also important to plan carefully because different museums are open on different days; the good thing about this is that it allows you to go see something every day you're there. Most of the art museums are located in the same general area, fortunately, so that makes the logistics of going relatively easy. And each museum has a different emphasis that might affect the choices you make about which ones to see.

This museum had some tremendous paintings by the masters of French Impressionism, which we had never seen before. In particular, there was one by Van Gogh that created almost a Japanese screen over a landscape. Very impressive. Also, it has its share of German Expressionism. The second most important museum to visit in Munich after the Lenbachaus.

“Everybody needs some culture!!”
Reviewed August 12, 2014

We went on a Sunday and admission was reduced. It was very nice. We saw artistic works by the great masters. This was a fine way to spend a few hours. We really enjoyed it.

“go on a Sunday for 1 euro”
Reviewed August 12, 2014

You could spend a long time in here, but I looked at only the 19th and 20th century paintings. These included van Gogh, Cezanne, Monet etc but also German painters who I had not seen before and enjoyed very much.

“Great paintings but grumpy staff”
Reviewed August 8, 2014

A really great large selection of paintings which is worth the ticket fee. However the man behind the counter was very grumpy, quite rude and would not accept our student cards so we had to pay the full admission fee.
