For those who love modern art it is a place to go. You can find there Rodin, Monet, Manet, Gauguin and a lot more. In the basement there is also a restaurant and on Sundays entrance fee is 1 Euro.

For one visit, the pinakothek is larger than it appears. The content available in each room can fill hours. I really enjoyed the tour, not only for the famous paintings of Monet, Van Gogh and Gauguin but also to learn of other artists I had never heard about. If you like art, defintely go there.

Only visit if you have at least 2 hours to spend, because the galleries are so extensive and the collection so interesting that you won't want to miss any of the 20+ rooms. Naturally the star is Van Gogh's Sunflowers, but there are also other great works by Van Gogh himself and others like Monet, Cezanne and Klimt.

Admission on Sunday is 1 euro while for the rest of the week (except Tuesday when it's closed) it's 5.5 to 7 euros. You have to leave your bag at the garderobe which costs 70 cents, or in a locker (free with a 2 euro deposit).

The second of the art museums known as the Pinakotheken, the Neue Pinakothek presents German and European art of the 17th-19th centuries. It's a very pleasant way to spend a winter afternoon.

This place is very well organized and laid out. It takes you through the 19th century in western art. Particularly impressive are the French impressionists. And on Sunday, you get in for 1 euro. Beware though that they will not let you take any sort of purse or backpack in, and you have to pay 2 euro to store it plus 70 cents per coat.
The guards were very friendly as were the people in the gift shop.
