This is a very good collection and it was interesting to see how they had juxtaposed some paintings from the Moderne gallery (being refurbished) to demonstrate influences.

The building is very well laid out, and the collection, which is mostly German but has a number of English, French, and Dutch works as well, is very attractively displayed. Because the Pinakothek der Moderne is closed for rnovations, a number of its works had been moved into the Neue. The explanations for the comparisons were informative in German and English. On the whole, however, the Neue Pinakothek, like the Alte, makes only minimal concessions to non-German speakers.

Sunday strolling to shake off jet lag-- a quiet stroll through one of Munich's finer museums is a great way to recover. The Neue Pinakothek is a remarkable find with plenty of interesting art examples from mostly German artists but with good samplings from many others. The rooms are pretty spacious and well marked so that you can easily tour the art in a couple hours. Sundays in Munich museums are only 1 euro admission.

There is a good collection but I found it less impressive altogether than the Alte Pinakothek which is outstanding.

Contrary to what their website indicated, there was no art nouveau/jungestil or glimt. When i inquired, the attendant curtly said that period wasn't on display currently. I know museums change their collections, but i would expect the website to be current. Nevertheless, the building itself was quite lovely, And the collection was well displayed. We stayed about two hours.
