“Well laid out”
Reviewed October 21, 2012

Take your time and take the audio guide. This is a well laid out gallery with a lot of European painters that you will not see elsewhere.

“extensive collection of masterpieces”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

Pinakothek museums are all well organized with the genuine gallery experience: user friendly floor maps, customized lighting on the paintings and sculptures, fairly comfortable seating in the exhibition rooms and more than helpful audio guides that helps visitors to understand the artists work to the fuller extents.

Alte Pinakothek is one of the oldest galleries in the world and houses one of the most famous collections of Old Master paintings. There are many masters’ art works. Rubens, Raphael , Brueghel and etc., just to name a few .

Highlight of the Collection:
Loonardo Da Vinci’s Virgin and Child, Albrrecht durer’s self portrait with fur-trimmed robe, Peter Paul Rubens’ the great last judgment (6,085 x 4,635 cm, the largest painting at Alte Pinakothek!) Albrecht Altdorfer’s the battle of issus, Pieter Bruegel’s the land of cockaigne, FranÇis Boucher’s portrait of the Marquise de Pompadour

Special discounts:
1.Sunday only: 1 euro for admission. The catch: there’s a charge on the audio guide (complimentary for normal entry fee)
2. Day pass for 12 euros, including Alte Pinakothek, Neue Pinakothek, Pinakothek der Moderne, and Museum Brandhorst. No additional fee on the audio guides. Special exhibition doesn’t apply.

The day pass is a real bargain! These museums stay open till 8 pm respectively on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. And Pinakothek der Moderne an Museum Brandhorst’s collections are rather limited and only needs about an hour or so to finish browsing through the exhibition.

I love Pinakothek museums and have visited three times so far. Alte Pinakothek is my favorite! I usually start around noon, take my time and finish 3 to 4 museums around 7ish in the evening.

“Paintings of exceptional quality”
Reviewed October 18, 2012

If you like early art from the 14C onwards then you'll love this place. We spent hours admiring the works of Bosch, Raphael, Leonardo di Vinci, Titian, Drurer, Van Dyke, Reubens etc. The cafe served lovely cakes too.

“Some great pieces. Closed on a Monday.”
Reviewed October 13, 2012 via mobile

Both my wife and I really enjoyed the gallery. The staff were helpful and we would definitely recommend the audio tour. The information is concise and interesting without being over long. We spent a good three hours there and still ended up rushing through some of the rooms. Great value.

We didn't realise that the gallery was closed on Monday's though the Neue Pinakothek is.

The cafe also worth a visit as the cakes are fantastic.

“One of my favorite museums”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

Worth taking the time to see. And best to do 2 half days, to avoid burnout, there is SO much too see. Excellent displays, even though getting around is a bit confusing at first. Very well marked and explained, we used the guided tour which was very nicely done.
