This is a fun place to stroll around during the day. It is blocks long of specialty markets including bakeries, fresh fruits and vegetables, sausage shops, flowers and places to eat. It was just as much fun to window shop as to buy. The soup cafe is a must.

This historic market is literally just a block from the Marienplatz in the heart of Munich's old town. The market itself is then a self contained world of its own, close to but separated from the city. It contains stalls selling a variety of fresh vegetables, fruit, cheese, breads, wines and just about anything you would need to cook a fine meal or assemble a picnic.
There are also places where lunch, snacks or just drinks are available.

Just about every city in Europe has a market. This one has its own state protected permanent location right in the city central and is well attended by locals and tourists.

We were here 2 years ago and thought it was a great market, both for eating at the restaurants and cafes and for the food stalls selling fresh produce. On this last visit there seemed to be a lot more places to eat and less stalls selling fresh produce and the produce on sale was not as fresh as last time or as fresh as we would want. We had hoped to stock up with fresh food for our trip, but bought very little as the quality was not good enough and the prices very high by comparison with other places.

We walked to this market which was quite easy to find. I think we just asked one person for directions and they were very helpful. ..all the people in Munich seemed helpful, btw. This market has everything you could wish to see, from vegetables and fruit, to various meats and cheeses
Wine shops, craft beers, toys, traditional bavarian curios, cafés,tea shops etc, etc. We walked and tasted for ages and had lots of fun. Very good vibe too.

I like to visit markets in every city I travel to as you get to learn a lot about the people of that city from their local markets. This one is lots of fun. Has a good variety of foods, cooked and uncooked, wines, beers, fruits, vegetables, cheese shops, delicatessens in addition to many other specialty shops. The market is centrally located and is surrounded with all types of attractions, department stores, and hotels and very easy to get to by public transportation. We shopped and had a great lunch here. Make this one of your first stops in the city.
