The large double domed church that forms the Munich skyline. Very impressive from the outside, not so much on the inside.

So much history hides in the strangest places. The church has several bump outs (stations?) along the outside edges devoted to various saints. Several seem long neglected. I think this has happened because those saints may no longer be needed such as the Patron Saint of Washerwomen or some other defunct group of people swept aside by technology. This was a time I wish my German had been better.

Beautiful building worth the visit but do some research first if you don't speak German so it all makes sense to you. This is a good launch point for research:

The wikipedia photos are much better than mine so I didn't attach any.

Unfortunately, one of the towers was under wraps, as seems is a lot of Munich, so we could not really get a good picture of the imposing exterior. In addition, access to the tower was not possible either. That being said, it is a beautiful church which one long interior - consisting of a double row of high columns with seemingly no windows but through which the light somehow gets in and a gothic nave - beautiful. At the entry there is a tile with a black mark resembling a footprint which, according to local legend, is the footprint of the devil...

From the tour group we heard the history of the church and why it is a symbol of Munich. Also the legend about the devil allowing the church to be built if it had no windows and what the devil imprinted at the church for deceiving him. Dont want to be a spoiler so hear the rest when you go. Wrote this review to also point out the gold brick that is in one of the towers. Our guide pointed out that Munich has a rich history and the nazi era is one that they dont celebrate or have many open references to in the city. They gold brick was placed after the reconstruction of the tower after the war. Liked the stories and the history
