I was in Munich for a business conference and after several days of (good) german food, I was looking for a change. I went to Le Sud based on a recommendation from my hotel, even though it was a 20 minute trip. I'd checked the menu before going and was expecting a good, reasonable brasserie meal ( steakfrites, coq au vin, etc).
When I arrived at this comfortable, low-key place, the excellent waiter first put me at ease as a single, American diner. When asked what was particularly good, he recommended a 4- course prix fixe menu. Being an ardent Foodie, I chose this option, expecting to be able to taste a number of Brasserie courses. But when the food arrived I was in for an great surprise! Every course was fantastic, beautifully presented and incredibly flavored, making the best use of seasonal ingredients. Both the food and service were worthy of a four-star restaurant at home- but in a very unstuffy environment. I'm not sure where they got their chef, but this was some seriously enjoyable food. One of the best restaurant meals/experiences I've had on either continent- and I thought their price for the prix fixe was very reasonable given the prices I'd been paying at other places in Munich.
