Great location in front of the clock. I actually did the German thing and had the weißwurst. It was fantastic and so was the spatzel with cheese. you have to try it, like German mac & cheese.

“Great Bavarian Experience”
Reviewed June 29, 2014

Over the square from the Hofbrauhaus this restaurant/bar was an excellent choice for some great tasting Bavarian food (we had a mix of meals ranging from trout, chicken, pork and duck) washed down with some excellent Ayinger beers - try the stein of beer from the wooden barrel that they only serve after 5 pm...good service and nice atmosphere.

“Good people watching, OK food”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

After reading the many positive tripadvisor reviews of this restaurant, we were excited for a dinner at Wirtshaus Ayingers. The restaurant and patio were well-appointed, and outside was a steady flow of tourists to watch strolling past the restaurant on their way to Hofbrauhaus.

The food was typical Bavarian cuisine but without the innate delicious flavor, which the chef attempted to supplement by over salting the sauces. The dumplings were particularly sub-par -- apparently there only to fill the stomach and not at all complementing the meat dishes.

The service was pleasant at first and appropriately reserved for Bavaria. The single biggest faux pas made by service was at the very end of the meal -- exactly when we were about to pay a tip and right before we went home to write a review. When we asked for the check, we attempted to inform them that we would be paying with a credit card, but we were ignored. Then when the check was brought to the table, they again walked away as we attempted to tell them we wanted to pay with a credit card. We finally got the attention of a waiter, informed him we wanted to pay with a credit card, and he stood at our table and rolled his eyes at us. He brought the credit card machine, at which time we were reprimanded -- "Next time you MUST inform me you are paying with a credit card before you ask for the check."

As advice for those traveling in Bavaria, the above waiter's statement is not true. It is polite to ask, as we attempted to, but it is not required or customary. It is, however, required and customary for waitstaff to not reprimand a customer.

Summary: good location for touristy people watching but with uninspired food and offensive service.
Recommendation: go to the many other delicious and friendly places in the area (Zwickl and Restaurant Alter Hof are different but excellent options in the same area).

“Genuine bavarian food and good service”
Reviewed June 16, 2014

After having dinner in a crowded beer halle the previous night, it is a comfort to be able to enjoy a genuine bavarian food and a good beer in a nice quiet old building with history. We knew the main dish portion would be quite big however we still would like to try out the white asparagus. As suggested by the waitress we shared the white asparagus as appetiser and it was good. As for the main, we had the pork knuckle and Shnitzel. Both dishes were tasty and huge in portion. Food arrived quickly and service is good. A very nice place to have bavarian dinner and chill out with a cold beer in a hot summer night.
