Nice atmosphere, good food, (dark) beer and service with plenty of outdoor tables at the North end of Munich's English Garden.

“Beautiful setting, excellent food !”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 28, 2013

It's probably easy to be overwhelmed by the choice of biergartens in Munich - there are so many close to the centre that many visitors won't venture out into the northern parts of the Englischer Garten. Big mistake ! Set in beautiful woodland, this restaurant is really worth a visit. You should walk a while, if only to build up your appetite for the delicious food.....
We couldn't sit in the garden (it was raining), but the restaurant is also worth visiting in bad weather. It has a series of attractive, wooden-panelled rooms with a very welcoming, cosy atmosphere.Although it was busy, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The seasonal dishes were excellent ( we were there at "asparagus time") and the classics of schnitzel and duck were really wonderful. Yes, you can enjoy the beer, but there are also wonderful wines on offer ..... and there's a playground for kids too ! Highly recommended.

“Wha a duck,”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

A very traditional biergarten in very nice wood, very few tourists. Can eat and drink indoors or outdoors. Good menu and choice of wines and beers. The matjas filt are very good and the rost duck is spectacular. Good apple strudel. Service ok.

“Local's Biergarten in Englischer Garten”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2012

Situated on the northern end of Englischer Garten, this is a lovely Biergarten and restaurant frequented by a local crowd. Unlike the hordes that descend on the other two Biergartens in the park (Seehaus and Chinensicher Turm) we’ve yet to see another tourist at Aumeister. Serving Hofbräuhaus beer, good food from the self-service stands (indoor restaurant available as well), and a healthy dose of gemütlichkeit, Aumeister is a great destination after a walk through the park. From the southern entrance of the park plan on about a two hour stroll. For a different approach, walk up Ludwigstrasse through the university district and admire the beautiful historical buildings. When you reach Munchner Freiheit U-bahn station in Schwabing, turn east and enter the Garten. Walk north along the river then follow the park maps to Aumeister. To return via U-bahn, walk out of the biergarten and under the overpass, turn left. Walk to McDonalds, continue straight across street and take the walking path under overpass. Take the first right and walk about 5 minutes to the Freimann U6 station U6. Trains run back into town every 10 mins.

“Old style Bavarian restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 12, 2011

Interesting place, in the outskirts of Munich. We got there almost by chance and the restaurant was full, apparently booked by some big firm in the area. Nevertheless, the personnel found a table for us and we enjoyed a soup and a meat-based main course. The quality was really good, and the presentation of the dishes too. A surprise and good choice if you are in the area and don't want to go as usual to downtown.
