My wife and I stayed at the Zehntkeller and it was fantastic. It 's located in a small town and the food and service was 1st class. Rooms were done very tastefully and were very clean and modern. Their prices are very reasonable for what you get and the room rate includes a fantastic breakfast in the morning. Our dinner was great and the wine was very reasonable and good. Seems like many local Germans come here to eat.

This hotel is a gem in a beautiful medieval small town, close enough to Würzburg. Romantic, quiet, luxurious and epicurean - these words characterise the Zehntkeller which is hotel, winery and restaurant.

Location: The Zehntkeller is located right in the town of Iphofen. Within easy walking distance you find historical buildings, a completze rounded wall with magnificent gates, museums, the church with a Riemenschneider sculpture, cozy little restaurants and wineries. In the area are the famous vineyards of Iphofen, the Main and many other nice old towns like Mainbernheim or Kitzingen. Würzburg with its UNESCO world heritage Residenz (Tiepolo paintings) is 20 min. away.

Building: The Zehntkeller is an ensemble of baroque-style buildings, surrounded by beautiful gardens.

Room: Since we traveled with our son, we booked the "Hochzeitshäuschen", a suite with two bedrooms in a separate building. The two bedrooms are furnished and decorated in Biedermeier style. The bathroom is very elegant and incredibly spacious. The rooms are certainly 5-star-level - including bathrobes.

Restaurant: Enjoy modern, very aromatic cuisine. We had a set menu of foie gras and Tafelspitz jelly, an incredibly aromatic beef stock with stuffed noodle, a roulade from trout with cucumber, fillet of veal with chili crust in red wine sauce with braised shallots, a variation of desserts (red berry sherbet, raspberry tirami su, mousse au chocolat, nougat parfait), and a cheese platter. Since the Zehntkeller is a first-class winery, you have a selection of about 60 different local wines. The menu was quite pricey (60 Euros), however a bottle of good wine goes for 12 to 20 Euros.

Value: We paid 190 Euros for three persons including breakfast. For high season, this is excellent value.
