This place certainly met our expectations.
GOOD: It is very well located to visit the castle (easy walk); the breakfast was more than adequate - the chocolate muesli was a hit with our children; the room was ok, nothing special, but nothing horrifying either (we had no problems with lights as some people have complained about).
NOT SO GOOD: Our only real issues were checking in: it took us 20-30 mins to have someone open up, despite following the instructions for our requested late check-in (8:30pm) ... I had two young children and was beginning to worry I'd be finding another hotel or sleeping in the car; and then on checking out another lady had an attitude with us ... unfortunately, my limited German means I still have no idea why!

ROOMS/ACCOMMODATION - TV did not work, room was dusty and the toilet had already been "used" when we checked in. The hallways smelt of stale cigarettes and the fire escape had empty beer bottles and ashtrays on it. The staff live on site and like to "enjoy themselves" after the restaurant has closes. The noise of people laughing and running around the corridors goes on until about 3.00am and did on the both nights we stayed.

SERVICE - No one is available when you need them. At breakfast it took 20 minutes for a member of staff to serve us tea and coffee. We also witnessed a couple being shouted at by a waitress when they sat at a table that had been set up for lunch and were made to move halfway through eating their food.

BREAKFAST - You will have to share your breakfast with flies & insects as well as, any off duty members of staff smoking cigarettes & watching/laughing at you tube videos on their laptops/mobile phones.

LOCATION - Its a short walk to the castle however you are not made to feel welcome when you drive up a very steep hill as it is packed with tourists and horse drawn carriages who will stare at you as you drive up. Some locals may even shout at you, my advice is to ignore them. However the location is ideal for a visit to the castle and walks around the hills and mountains.

OVERALL - A very smelly and unfriendly hotel. My advice is to stay in the village at the bottom of the hill.

Let me start on a plus note-stunning location. The rest of our experience was shocking. The hotel should be described as a youth hostel as the rooms are old, the TV does not work and there is no service, no one smiles and no one greets you. Our biggest complaint was the noise from the staff who also stay at the hotel-all night long you here them running round. On our last morning we wanted to mention this to the owner but we could see no one who ran this hotel so we mentioned this to a waiter and he shrugged his shoulders!!!!By my comments so far you can probably guess what breakfast is like-flies on the bread rolls!!! We will never revisit this hotel.

The reception lady was very friendly, but all other staff without smile, it feels as if they are quite fed up with all the tourists. The room was cute, small and compact, and needed vacuuming. The mattress was totally uncomfortable, I could feel the springs against my bones. The weather was cold and rainy (+12 degrees celsius) but the heating was not turned on, so the room was quite cold.

If you wish to dine at the hotel, please note that the restaurant closes at 6 p.m.

Then the good points: From the hotel there is only a 7-minute-walk to the entrance of the castle. In other words, you are one of the few that are allowed to drive up the hill (this however requires driving among the up-hill walking tourists and not beeing bothered by the looks they give you).

Worth mentioning is also that when you stay at this hotel, you get a discount of the Neuschwanstein ticket if bought from the castle info (the hotel gives you a coupon).

My husband and I have had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Not only is it a 2 minute walk to the Neuschwanstein Castle, but the service was wonderful as well. We arrived several hours early prior to check in, however, not only did they let us check in early, they offered us free refreshments in their restaurant (due to the room not being ready). The hotel was very clean and the staff was very friendly. We unknowingly booked a "shared" bathroom room. This means that we shared bathroom facilities with other guests. I did not love this. The wonderful perk to this hotel is the free parking. The hotel is far from other hotels in the area, but very close to the castle. The guest gets to drive their vehicle up the approx. 2mile road while all other vacationers have to walk or pay to get up the castle. The restaurant closes at 6 so beware! The free breakfast was an average german breakfast.

If you order a cappuccino, they will serve you their famous "cappuccino del insecto" (With a fresh housefly in it). If you politely ask them for a new one, they simply avoid you all the time. We even didn't say we want a reimburse. We just wanted to buy a new one (Just more profit for them).
But for some reason our great friendly waiter thought we don't pay anymore for their Cappuccino del Insecto.
In front of the Restaurant/Hotel there is a stall for "donuts". If you have a look there the assistent will pack 3 donuts in a bag, and simply asks you for €2. (Without asking if you actually want is)
The worst service I ever seen.

Except this: The food is bad. (Also without the insect) And it is too expensive for the taste.

The only advantage: It has a nice location.

My husband, a friend of his, me, and our infant son all stayed in one room. I feel bad because my husband's friend basically got the floor. I let my husband make the plans and he thought double bed meant two beds. *facepalm* Even still, the rooms are very small, but it is a B&B style. It took us a while to find the place. A very nice German told us that we had to drive up a pedestrian only path to get there. The food is good. If you get the chance, get some of their bavarian snowballs in the front kiosk. The best part is it's 2 skips and a hop away from the castle.
