“Ok hotel for one night”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

This hotel is average and Ok for a night so that you can visit the castles. It 's a stopover hotel not a holiday hotel. I found the staff friendly - they must see so many people that the occasional lapse into being a bit jaded might be expected. The food on the terrace was good and served with courtesy, as was breakfast. What this hotel really needs is a room make over. If the rooms looked a bit fresher, it might be more of a weekend hotel than a one night hotel. But space constraints would still mean bathrooms were claustrophic. The people were lovely though.

As it is our 40th wedding anniversary this year we booked a room for 2 days in the hotels Jagerhaus annexe which is just across the road from the main hotel.
The rooms are very large, clean and very comfortable with a view of both the castles from the different windows and is well worth the extra cost.
Breakfast was buffet style with a large choice to suit all tastes. The Japanese tour party which was visiting at the same time had breakfast in an adjoining room.
Evening meals where not available and guests were advised to go to the newly refurbished hotel at the lakeside which has the same owners.
We chose to eat elsewhere as the meals were more expensive at the lakeside.
Please note that this review is for the Jagerhaus annexe and not for the main hotel where the rooms are a lot smaller.
The area is very busy with coach parties starting as early as 8.00am through to 7.00pm.

For location, services and price it is a really good alternative, but you have to be aware that not all rooms have queen beds. Bathroom also needs some improvement as to take a shower you have to hold the shower fawcet on your hand as there is no self support for it.
Nevertheless it is really wonderfull to be just in the middle of everything in Schwangau. Both castles are just minutes away.

Room Tip: Ask for west side rooms, and specificaly for a king/queen bed

Like the past few reviews, I also stayed in the corner room with views of both castles. This was very nice as I could see the castles before going to sleep at night and after I woke up in the morning. But the bed was sub-par, old, small, not much support, and rather low to the ground. The beds were out of proportion with the huge furniture that was crammed into the room. I think they would be well to remove one or both of the monstrous arm chairs and leave the couch and coffee table. It would have been nice if we had two towels per person as we had to shower often due to the humid weather and lack of air conditioning. The bathroom was large with a huge!!! tub and a separate shower. The breakfast was average. They were slow to replace consumed items. The restaurant was also average, with likewise average portions.
However, unlike the other reviews regarding the desk staff, I found them to be quite friendly and helpful. Other than the view, I think they were the best part of the experience.

Room Tip: Corner room in the Annex facing the two castles

We had booked a double room with a package for meals and tickets and were delighted to be given a corner suite which looked out on both castles. The meals, although they were set menu were exceptional - one served in the Lisl restaurant and the other in their sister hotel the Alpensee. Overall the package was great value.

The room was spacious, clean and the beds were comfortable. There were two things that we thought fell short for a high standard hotel. First there were no English speaking TV chanels and after dinner there isn't really much to do in the village so a catch up on English TV would have been nice. The other was the bedroom curtains - they were not blackout so by 6am we were woken by the sunlight shining through. In a place like Neuschwanstien you really don't want to be woken at the crack of dawn. Still we did enjoy our stay and it is one of the nicer hotels in town.

Don't let the somewhat rude and unhelpful front desk staff scare you away from this hotel. Overall, the views and value made up for the short interaction we had at check-in. We had paid for a standard room, but ended up in a huge corner suite, with amazing views of both castles. The room was dated, but clean and comfortable. The food at the restaurant was excellent, and the service was perfect. The surrounding area is so beautiful, and the location of the hotel is perfect - in the middle of the village, right next to the trail to walk up to Neuschweinstein Castle. We spent 2 days, and one night, and wish we had time to linger longer and enjoy the unbelievable beauty of the area.

Annoyances:
- No clothing iron available at the hotel at all. Had to macgyver out a way to use our hair dryer and splashing water to get the wrinkles out (tedious to say the least!).
- Wireless internet was slow and only available in the lobby/bar
- No hotel parking. You have to park in an open public lot - 5 min walk down a hill near the lake. Another reviewer mentioned "free secure parking." Not sure if this has changed since our visit.

We stayed at this hotel as part of a 3 week long road trip through Europe, staying predominantly at 5 star hotels/resorts (for frame of reference). Overall, we enjoyed our stay at this hotel (mainly for the location and views) and thought the value of what we got for the price was excellent. We will hopefully stay here again when we return.

Room Tip: Definitely, request a corner room with spectacular views of both castles.

I would never recommend this hotel because of Maria - front desk clerk. The room was perfect but service is horrible.
We were in the hotel for one nigth but we decided to stay longer because we had loved the room and until that moment the hotel service.  We went to front desk and Maria was in charge of the front desk. We asked her if we could kept our room for an extra night.
During the whole process she was ironic( laughing ironically), rude and made clear that she had a group that nigth and no space for us. She offered a room in the other hotel and I said we were going to think since we were avoiding to pack again to change hotels. But as we have loved the hotel so much we decided to come back and check the room. She was not in the front desk but catching up in the kitchen and a Nice lady saw us and went there to call her.
She came back laughing ironically and asked if finally we were going to check the room, gave us the key and again made an acid comment about the rate of the room she was offering:   " it is obviously more expansive than your previous one #20"... We never complaint or made any comment regarding rates. I have no idea why she kept talking about it
After that we decided to go to Fussen and stayed at Hirsch Hotel where the service was perfect and the front desk very friendly. It was more expensive but it worths its price. I sent an e-mail to hotel manager and the answer was not satisfactory. My advice is avoid this hotel.
