“Everything I hoped for!”

I am a hopeless romantic and obsessed with Disney, so I thought it only fitting to start of my Europe vacation with a trip to the "Disney" Castle (officially named Neuschwanstein Castle). I wanted a hotel in close proximity with a view of the castle and found Hotel Alpenstuben while looking for tickets to the castle online.

When we got there the staff was very friendly and was able to check us right in. There is no elevator, but we had very little luggage. We were on the top floor of the hotel and the room was beautiful. The balcony had a perfect view of the castle, the only problem is that it was being renovated so you couldn't see it! This made me a little sad, but the hotel was still perfect. The room itself had a canopy bed and some nice art on the walls. The hotel also offered free wifi, which was great for me and my mom to stay in contact with everyone back home.

I will say that the rooms here are small compared to American hotel rooms, but by European standards it was very spacious. The shower did require you to step up into it, but a minor detail for the overall experience. It is very close to the bus station, so you do not have to walk too far. I would recommend this hotel for sure, we had a great time.

Room Tip: The hotel offers romantic specials for a small additional fee, so if you are going for a honeymoon o...

We booked this hotel based on reviews on tripadvisor. We have been travelling in Europe and the UK for almost nine weeks, relying on tripadvisor reviews to help make our selection of hotel. We were lured by the description of a"romantic double room with views of the castle". When we reached our room at this hotel, we had to check several times to ensure that we had booked the correct hotel. The room was tiny, with the bed built against the wall. This meant that one person had no bedside table or light, and had to crawl to the end of the bed to get out. Additionally, the wall is an exterior one, which makes it cold. The room is so small that the only place to put your luggage is right in front of the wardrobe, which makes access extremely difficult. The bathroom is about the size of a wardrobe, with a huge hand- basin crammed into the space. This means that there is little room to even dry yourself, and you have to be careful not to hit your head on the hand basin when using the toilet. The base of the shower is raised about 30 cms above the floor, so you have to be careful not to slip when getting out of the shower. While the staff are pleasant and the hotel is located close to the castles, it is not good value for money. We could not recommend it- especially to anyone with mobility issues.

Room Tip: Don't be lured by the description- check how big the room is, and check other hotels in the area...

A wonderful view towards the Neuschwanstein Castle, unfortunately covered in scaffolding. Nice rooms and a wonderful breakfast. Walking distance to the various attractions. A very peaceful and serene location, specially after the tour buses have departed.

Room Tip: Get the rooms in front of the hotel, I think they are called a romantic package,

This hotel was perfectly charming and in the perfect location to visit both the castles as well as the beautiful surrounding nature. The hotel itself has a wonderful quaint and charming feel but still is impeccably clean and ordered. The breakfast was very good, but the dinner we had in the hotel restaurant was extraordinary! Venison goulash, absolutely to die for. The service was very pleasant all around as well. There are a number of quaint little hotels in the town, but I feel like we chose the right one. Highly recommended.

My wife and I stayed here for one night while visiting the castles in the area. The location can't be beat since both the Neuchenstein and the Hohenschwangua castles are literally at your doorstep. The rooms are clean with a good view. The staff was very helpful and friendly. The food at the restaurant was excellent for both dinner and breakfast.

Very warm and inviting! Stayed in the room over looking the main castle and loved it. Arrived in January 2012 around 1400 and it snowed the whole time making for the best pictures! Great location near both castles. Very quiet! Staff was very friendly and helpful! The restaurant served the best apfel strudel I have ever had in Germany!
