“Okay museum if you have some extra time”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 14, 2013

The museum is located at the village below the Castle Neuschwanstein. It provides a history of the Bavarian kings with related artifacts. The costs was 9.5 Euros for adults and our 2 teenage kids were at no cost (unexpected surprise).

The 2 story museum is of moderate interest and our kids did not find it all that entertaining. There are some interesting artifacts (was hoping for more actually) and lots of history on the Bavarian kings (more than most people probably want or need to know). There was good background on King Ludwig and his family. No photos or video were allowed in the museum. Portable handsets were provided that gave an auditory explanation of items in the museum based on numbered items.

We took about 45 minutes to go through the museum and that was sufficient. One could take longer if all the materials were read and all the auditory comments listened to but this more than most would want to do.

Overall, worth spending a short visit if you are not pressed for time. The cost was okay as well.

“modern and interseting”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2013

A well laid out museum with many intersting exhibits concerning the lineage of the Bavarian kings. We had an English audio guide which was very useful. If you are in the village for the castles it would be a shame not to spend some time here.

Worth the time to visit and browse. Located in a very picturesque area close to the castles and village.

“Big space, nice historical context”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2013

I learned a lot touring this museum. It was a great place to linger on a rainy October day. Many robes and much information about the full line of Bavarian Kings, would be good to go to Muncih next and learn the rest of the story.

“Modern museum for a quick history lesson”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 20, 2013

If you are at the Castles, then also go to the Museum on the same property. It's lovely and modern - lots of light and room - and you can get a quick overall history lesson on the Bavarian Kings. There is a English guided tour tape recording included so you can go as slow or fast as you like. Glad I went in.
