“Beautifully presented but unengaging”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 11, 2013

We had the combination ticket that allowed us entry to both castles and the museum. The building is really lovely and the location is very easy to get to, and right by the lake.

Overall I enjoyed our visit, but I felt it was a museum that looked better than it educated. For example there were walls and walls of photos of kings with small labels telling you who they were and brief details about them. The corridor looked very artistically appealing, but after I've read about three I unfortunately lose interest in this kind of exhibit as all the information starts to blur together. There were some more engaging bits here and there however, and I did learn some interesting facts about the families and their reigns.

It is definitely worth a look but I wouldn't worry about dedicating more than half an hour here.

“Excellent museum”

We had the combinations ticket, Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein castles and this museum. It is near the lake, right next to the wonderful Alpenrose restaurant.
The musuem is spacious and very well laid out. There is a lot of information here and it complements the visit to the castles. It covers all the Bavarian royals but there is plenty here on Ludwig II. Not to be missed when in Hohenschwangau.

“Small Muesum”

This museum was very small and short. But the items they did have there were nice. It was only about 8 Euro a person, so it was worth the money to see.

“Well worth it to study about the royal family of bavaria, the wittelbachs”

Enjoyed the history lesson v much. Learnt much more abt ludwig II and hos family than just visiting neuschwanstein. The audio guide helps bring the experience to life and we enjoyed our 1 hour plus visit there a lot.

“Worth It!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 18, 2012

In Hohenschwangau, the main attraction by far is Schloss Neuschwanstein. People from all of the world come to visit it. However, on the main drag in town is a very interesting museum, the Museum of the Bavarian Kings. You're taken on a journey through the history of Bavaria's royalty up until present day. You can see various artifacts from the history of the royal line, as well as learn the complete story of this proud lineage via a personal audio guide that is included in your admission.

Right outside the museum, there are also beautiful walking trails leading to both castles, as well as a gorgeous lake to spend some time at.

Also, if you stay at a hotel in town, admission is included with your stay.
