Our dream had been to go to Germany but not necessarily to see the castles. My wife insisted and it would have been a huge mistake to miss Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. We had such a nice day there and I cannot imagine going to Germany and not seeing these two great attractions so close to each other. It prompted us to read much more about the period of King Ludwig's life in Germany.

Schloss Hohenschwangau is one of the two castles we visited during our trip to the Bavarian Valley.

Also known as the yellow castle, it has amazing views of the lake and the valley.. it has a very interesting history and the guide who took us through the tour was a great story teller.

I would not recommend taking the inside tour for families with small kids because everyone is required to stay quite during the tour and also all items are 100+ year old and are not to be touched.

Other than that... amazing place to visit when you are in the area..

Much better visit to this than the neighbouring castle, more scenic inside and smaller queues to get in

To be able to see the castle from the outside is already great, even better is to see the layout inside as well as the variety of artefacts, sculptures and furniture used then. This is one of the things that must be on your bucketlist!!

Tragically Ludwig II had to succeed his dad when he died relatively young. Ludwig II was only 18 when he was crowned king. Wonderful tour with live guide in English or German or multilingual with an audiotour.
