While Neuschwanstein is the big dramatic castle, this one can definitely hold its own in both interest and views. The inside is fascinating and small enough to tour around with kids (there were quite a few in our group and all enjoyed it), and the castle benefits from a beautiful walk up to it with a fountain courtyard and mountain views all around.
If you have a timed ticket to both castles just be careful to not dawdle here too long afterwards (like we did) making it suddenly alarmingly close to your entrance time to the other castle which is up a huge hill! We managed to not be able to get either a carriage or the bus (both were totally full for the foreseeable future) leading to an uncomfortable dash up the very steep hill!
