Known as Cinderella Castle, for having inspired the Disney Castle in California. It is a place to contemplate for hours. It is simply a wonderful place, brings an immense peace and fills the eyes and soul with such beauty. Tickets are sold in advance by internet appointment and have translators for each language, you can also buy at the time you get there, but runs the risk of not having tickets for the desired time. The walk to the Castle is 40 minutes for those with physical fitness, has the possibility of carriages or buses (but the carriage line is always full, and sometimes there is no bus to go up there, on the day I was, there was no bus). This tour is not recommended for people with mobility problems, the elderly and hypertensive.

We caught the 552am train from Munich and are so glad we did! By lunch time after our tours the town and castle paths were jammed. The horse and carriage ride partially up the hill was nice (€6 pp). The English speaking tour guide was very knowledgeable and it is really interesting hearing the complete story of the castle and Ludwig. You can only enter the castle in a guided group. You can book ahead up to 5pm the day before, also very glad we did this! It costs about an extra 1,5 but you can skip the queue at the ticket office and you will also know your tour times in advance. We saw people buying tickets and their tour time was allocated 3-4 hours later. The views are incredible and the town is quaint. This was one of our favourite day trips.

My husband and I drove our rental car to see this castle. It's so cool that it inspired Disney castles. It costs five euros just to park in the lots (park in lot #4 by the lake for a closer walk up). You can wait for a shuttle up, take a carriage ride, or walk up. The walk takes about 30 minutes, and I recommend this as the shuttles and carriages both cost more money and have long lines! The walk up is not very scenic and there is tons of horse poo, but once you get up, the views are beautiful. We did not take the castle tour because we heard it wasn't really worth it. It is very touristy and there are cafes and shops scattered around. There are bathrooms at the top of the climb. Take the St. Mary's bridge on your walk down. The views are awesome, but it adds about 15 more minutes to your walk. Go early in the morning for less crowds! We arrived at 10am and left around noon - and it was so crowded by noon.

My partner and I went to visit the Neuschwanstein Castle on 10 July 2013. The views of the castle was well worth the journey, with the best views from Marienbrücke. However, beware of the mass crowds of tourists on the bridge and be careful when taking photos as we experienced pushing and shoving from some of the tourists.

We booked the tickets for the castle tour online with an additional fee of around 4 Euros per person, but we were relieved we did it because of the long queue for those who did not book it. Overall, the interior views of the castle were amazing, but the pace of the tour was too fast in my opinion. I did not get to linger and slowly appreciate the interior, but was rushed along the tour. Hence, I feel that the tour is a necessary evil but definitely not value for money.

Please take a look inside, its fantastic! The only problem: the tour in the castle starts with climbing stairs up till the fourth floor. You have to be healthy!
