“Thoroughly Enjoyable”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2014

We stayed here for 7 nights on a half board basis in July 2014. Not being very fluent German speakers we were a bit concerned we might have difficulties with menus etc. but we need not have worried. From the moment we entered the hotel we were made feel very welcome and throughout our stay we were truly treated as guests and not just paying customers.

The front desk staff had a friendly greeting whenever we passed and anything we requested was met with a very helpful attitude and response.

The restaurant, looking out over the lake, was beautifully appointed and the waiting staff looked after us (and all diners) with great care and attention and in a very professional manner. Menus in English were available each evening and several dining room staff spoke quite good English. Weather permitting there is an option to have breakfast or dinner on a balcony above the beautiful lake and overlooked by the massive Zugspitz mountain.

Breakfast offered a wide buffet choice of juices, cereals and freshly cut fruit, a range of breads and bread rolls, hot and cold foods from the buffet and a chef present to cook eggs and omelets to ones taste.

Dinner was amongst the best we have experienced on half-board deals. A salad bar opened proceedings followed by a nice starter buffet before the waiter served soup. Main course offered a vegetarian and three other options each evening and never repeated during our seven night stay. To round off there was a choice of two waiter served deserts and/or deserts from the buffet and a cheese selection.

Facilities at the hotel included a wellness centre and a small pool but these were complemented by some beautiful (indoor and outdoor) relaxation areas with comfortable furniture and of course the Eibsee with its beaches, lakeside walks, boats etc.

Within a few minutes walk of the hotel door there is a cable car which can lift you to the summit of the Zugspitz in ten minutes, or a train which does the same thing at a more leisurely pace - €51 round trip. On arrival at the hotel we were given a "Grainau Card" which gave us free travel on buses and trains between Eibsee and Garmisch, and various places in between, throughout our stay. We found this very useful for getting to and from attractions in the valley - only drawback was that the last bus left Garmisch at 19.10 so in effect, unless you have a car you are trapped in Eibsee in the evenings. But there is a cosy bar when dinner is over.

The hotel is beautifully located. Rooms are large, clean and comfortable with nice balconies. Armchairs and coffee table are provided both in the room and on the balcony. Our room faced the Zugspitz and presented some spectacular early morning and late evening views. Many of the rooms have lake views.

We loved the room, the location and the food but the most memorable feature of the hotel is the ability of the staff to make their guests feel welcome. We feel we must go back.

My husband and I stayed here 37 years ago when it was a Holiday Inn. It was wonderful then...but now it is spectacular. It is on one of the most beautiful lakes in Bavaria, Eibsee, that is at the foot of the Zugspitz, the highest mountain in Germany. The rooms are clean and the views are inspiring. Sitting on the deck for dinner is our favorite thing to do! Should be on your "bucket list" -

Room Tip: Lake & mountain view!

I was super excited to stay here, as the website showed the hotel as a beautiful resort hotel.
Unfortunately it looks like it hasn't been updated in 30 years. Very tired and gloomy facilities. The furniture in the lobby looked like old dumpy furniture one would put in a basement. The fitness room was a joke, dark and dreary, which is why you won't see any pics of it on their website. On a positive note the room was spacious and the bed was comfortable, but the vibe of the whole place was kind of unappealing and sort of icky for lack of a better word. Most disappointing hotel of our entire trip. The area is beautiful and the bike trail around the lake was wonderful. Wish we had stayed somewhere else.

Room Tip: ask for a lake view room

Wonderful location, hotel, staff and food. Want to go back now!!

It is hard to describe, but you are taken aback by the beauty of the place and it definitely takes you breath away. I did my research, but nothing prepares you.

The hotel is lovely, staff so welcoming and helpful, letting us cancel our Booking.com reservation and giving us a better room with half board at not much extra cost. Our room was not one of the largest rooms on our trip, but large enough and the corner balcony giving views of Zugspitze and the lake was fantastic. The room was clean and comfortable and there are bags with towels, slippers and robes to go down to the spa. We used the pool, but nothing else. The pool was clean and warm.

The evening meal was wonderful and the service too - nothing was left on our plates and the dessert buffet gives you a chance to try more than one thing. Breakfast was just as good and omelettes. eggs cooked to order.

You can use canoes and rowing boats that are beached on the hotels lake edge for free to explore the lake or hire bikes to cycle round it at 6 Euro / 2 hours, you can hire for longer , but we just did it in 2 hours - Cycle or walk it is lovely seeing the area from different views.

The Eibsee Cable car and train up Zugspitze is just a stones throw away and there is a train station to to take you into Garmisch-Partenkirchen , but the hotel gives you a bus ticket which gives you free travel on the bus that takes you into town. Good service and meant we could leave the car at hotel as parking is free. Bus stop just beside hotel's car park.

Wi-Fi is free - our connection was poor as we were at one of the furtherest points from reception, but view was worth it.

We want to go back next year and if our next trip had not been booked we have booked here for sure and for longer - 2 days was not enough.

Room Tip: Get a lake view room, number 219 has a corner balcony so you get the lake and Mountain view.

We stayed for 3 nights and it was a great place to stay. The view from the hotel with the lake in front and the mountains around is fabulous. Our room was big and comfortable. I didn't use the spa facilities, but did try the gym - much of the kit in the (small) gym was broken, which was the only (stress only) not good thing about the stay. The food as others have said is really good. High end restaurant dining with a german (?) / central european twist. The size of the portions are also really good (which as a big bloke is important!). Breakfast also really good. Do wander around the lake. Do take the cable car up the mountain and have a hot chocolate at the top. Would I stay again - yes.

Room Tip: get a lake view room if you can

After all the photos I had looked at and research I had completed online, I was not prepared for what I saw once I arrived at the Eibsee Hotel. It is beyond words. I stayed up while the sun went down and watched the moon appear from behind the ridge of mountains. It was as relaxing as I thought it would be and I can only think it would be the same for anyone trying to get close to nature. The service is great. The food and rooms were spectacular.

My husband booked this on my birthday when we were visiting Germany and Austria and I couldn't have been more impressed! Absolutely gorgeous place and the meals were PHENOMENAL! It's located close to the Zugspitze too which was awesome! The spa was great, and we got to jump in the lake (even though it was December and people looked at us like we were crazy). Eventually others started doing it too--kinda like a polar bear plunge
