Every picture I took while at this resort looked like a postcard. The lodge is beautiful with lovely details and lots of comfortable furniture in the lobby, including rocking chairs in front of the fireplace. There are plenty of choices for dining and snacks, but watch the prices as we paid 5.00 dollars for a yogurt parfait downstairs. You will have a fridge so bring the snacks from home don't buy here. I liked that there were laundry facilities, you pay about 2.00 to wash and dry in a large machine. The planned activites are wide ranging and really there is something for everyone to do everyday. We took a trip to the Ettal Monestary and Cheese factory and it was fantastic. The kids club offered many varied activites for the kids, ours went to a lake, rode a chair lift up the mountain, and went on a train (age 8 and 11). I know several families who used the CDC that is close to the property for the toddlers and babies. The rooms are pretty standard with a small balcony unless you request a superior loft suite, which if you have a party of more than 4 would be a better bet financially, although you can't book those online you have to call or email. The buffet was okay for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. For about the same price you can eat at the restaurant next door where I felt the food quality was much better. The swimming pool is a bit small for the size of the resort, just one and indoor only. There is a small range of services at the spa, but they do not do pedicures, so get yours before you get here. We will return here, and next time opt for the bigger and nicer rooms, the price difference is worth it.

Room Tip: Go with a loft

We stayed here only for two nights, and received a nice big room. The staff was helpful and made everything possible to give you a nice stay. This is an authentic and traditionally decorated hotel. In a way it may seem a little worn, but on the other side this is what gives the place its charm. It is located in a calm part of Garmisch, so you have to walk a bit to get to the center of town (if you don´t have a car).

We really enjoyed the calm and nice garden. Breakfast was included in our room rate, and was very good! There is also complimentary garage parking.

There are just too many kids for the size of the property. Edelweiss needs to expand the size of the indoor swimming pool or add another one, during our 2 day stay, there was not 1 minute that the swimming pool was not filled with screaming, splashing kids. The amount of adults that were present did not in the least equal the amount of children that were there, Edelweiss management really needs to enforce the child supervision policy for the entire property, especially during meals at the buffett, it really detracts from a meal to have children running around with plates of food yelling......Not everybody that goes to Edelweiss has children or a family with them, it was not a very relaxing time for us when we went. There should be some consideration for couples without children. Booked a massage(which was wonderful) but the massage room was a guest room with a massage table in it, was hard to relax with children running up and down the halls and screaming outside the windows. The room was very nice sized and very clean, but there was no air conditioning and it is hot in August, there was just a small table fan. Also feel that an E6 should not have to pay the same rates as senior enlisted and all officers, because that is the price scale now. E1-E5 pay the same rate and E6 and above pay the same rate. There should be a middle price scale. It was an expensive 2 days spent at Edelweiss that really was not a chance to rest and relax. The mountain views were absolutely amazing though.

Room Tip: Rooms that are located on the second floor around the balcony area are very nice.

Very beautiful resort with spectacular views. The rooms were comfortable and big, the activities center was great and the food was just ok. The bus stop is just outside of the resort which was nice because it takes you directly to the train station.

The only cons were that we were a group of singles and there were children everywhere running a muck at all hours, so that made sleeping in for us difficult.

We all had a chance to visit the spa and receive massages which were terrible, it felt as if I was the first person my massage therapist had ever worked on. It was an 80 minute deep tissue, the pressure was very light and she didn't concentrate on the areas I asked, not to mention that she was coughing through it. I couldn't wait for it to end!

Last October we were sitting in the sunshine in San Antonio with several of our neighbors talking about going on vacation. I threw out, "you know, there's a resort in Germany, I can see if we can get enough rooms for all of us..." and next thing you know, there's five families meeting up in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The resort made it so easy to plan for a large group. We downloaded the tour book in March and sat at our dining room table and picked the tours we wanted to do. (Castle- definitely, as the wait during high season is CRAZY), Lake Eibsee tour- not really a tour but a trip around the lake in a boat and time to either hang out lake side or go up the mountain for regular cost- if you have a car just go to the lake- it's a 15 minute drive) Everyone arrived within a day of each other and it was nice to have a break in the "if it's Tuesday it must be Berlin" schedule we were all sticking to otherwise. The buffet was fine- I don't know if it's worth the cost but if you have big eaters in your family then maybe. We stuck with the Starbucks downstairs for coffee and ate breakfast in the town. (with those bakeries walking distance away, go for it!) and usually ate lunch out. For dinner we ate at Zuggy's Base Camp most nights as we had 6 kids aged 5-10 with us and it was easy to feed them and let them play in the game room while we watched the Olympics and chatted. The resort is a nice walk from the train station- nice in the summer, I'd add. We cabbed it only because we were exhausted but several of our party walked to the train station the day they left. We walked into town every day and it's really not far at all, maybe a 15-20 minute walk. The resort rents bikes, too. The resort has laundry facilities that are well maintained. The kids LOVED the game room, the pool and the little kid movie section off the lobby. I want to mention by name Jennifer who works in the spa who fixed my feet with a mud bath, Rachelle in the Tours section who got us all organized and made sure every room was billed correctly for the tours and finally Cooper. Poor Cooper got stuck with us on the Lake Eibsee tour and then he accompanied us to the Zugspitze. They ended up closing down the gondolas due to weather and we all were put on the cog wheel train back down. It's hard to explain but suffice it to say that we (our group and others) were the last ones down. Cooper didn't once lose his cool. In fact, he made it fun! All in all, it was lovely. The rooms are spotless, and very comfortable. There isn't a bad view it seems from any room. I would love to be able to go back. Also, the military base with the commissary, post office and PX is right across the street from the back end of the resort (as is the bus stop to town) which is very convenient.

Room Tip: The view from the back side of the resort is gorgeous.
