This hotel offered more than we could have hoped for. The hotel included reasonably sized rooms with balconies and a picture perfect view. The service and amenities were unbeatable. We participated in numerous tours that were offered through the hotel for very reasonable prices. The hotel offered a free daily shuttle that transported skiers to the mountain for a day full of snow adventure. Parking was available but downtown was within relative walking distance. There are numerous restaurants right outside the entrance that offered delicious German cuisine which made up for the substandard restaurants offered inside the hotel. Breakfast was not included with our room and very over priced. The hotel is also located next to a military base providing easy access to a commissary, small PX, and car rental.

Upon arriving I beheld a beautiful, forested and clouded scenery enveloped in the Bavarian alps. The reception itself was wonderful, a cheerful smile was a welcoming smile after an exceedingly long, but scenic and interesting drive. The structure is the ideal conception of a lodge and resort in a mountainous region. Though the choice of restaurants and food within the lodge were slightly limited, the food was nonetheless great and enticing. Everything from American to local flavors of food and beverages. The rooms were wide and spacious, and fortunately My wife and I had quite a view of the cloud capped mountain peek. A number of activities and (relatively) local sites to see especially Neuschwanstein and Munich. The pool and Spa were quite nice, not too crowded, but frequented enough that you didn't question if it either were open.Beautiful and captivating. Unfortunately we didn't stay long enough to experience any of the local activities, but i have every desire to return and experience Edelweiss to its fullest.

Stayed at Edelweiss 1 wk in Sept. Loved the resort, the view, the staff, hot tub. The spa was great. Our room was great. Pullman's place was very good, and not priced too bad. The choices for breakfast were not good, and we expected some German entertainment at the resort at night. You had to go into town for any entertainment. Their bus tours were very good, and tour guides were well informed, but the buses stop at bus stops for 30 min, and the tours took longer than needed. A rental car gave us a lot more freedom. However, I'd highly recommend the Italy tour. You'll pass through the most gorgeous sites on earth, and it's nice to not have to drive and watch traffic. We difinitely plan to visit Edelweiss again. mc

Our family (composed of 5 adults) stayed at the Edelweiss Dec. 18-22, 2007 & had a fantastic time. In July I booked our rooms by calling the resort and spoke to a reservation person who was extremely helpful. We arrived early on the 18th & were allowed to check right into our rooms since our rooms were ready.

All of the personnel that we encountered from the desk clerks to the spa to the travel personnel were very pleasant & provided us with all of the information we requested & more. Our one son went skiing for 3 of the days while the rest of us went sightseeing. We did our own excursions (Oberammergau, the Zugspitze, Neuschwanstein & the Partnach Gorge) since we had a rental car. Plus we took the train from Garmisch to Munich using a Bayischer pass (good for up to 5 people). We liked being able to set our own schedule.

I called less than a month before our stay to book massage appointments & discovered that I should have called earlier. There were appointments available but not at the times we would have liked. So we put our names on the waiting list after we arrived. The spa did have a few cancellations but not many. So if you have your heart set on a spa treatment, book early.

We would definitely go back to the Edelweiss. We were very pleased with our rooms, enjoyed the buffet breakfast & liked the indoor parking garage that is below the building which keeps your car warm in the winter. We ate dinner one night at Pullman Place. The other nights we ate at some of the guest houses in Garmisch. The food was pretty good but the service was slow. We loved the outdoor hot tub. My husband & I used the hot tub on our last night. It's just a few steps outside from the indoor pool.

One note - since the Edelweiss is an Armed Forces Resort, be sure to send the required information on all non military ID card holders before your visit. We did & it made our entry onto the property very smooth. There is a section on their website for "sponsoring a non ID card holder."

My wife and I had an extremely pleasant weekend stay at Edelweiss in early November. We had lived in Europe for six months and were desperately craving the feeling of comfort that we got in the states. Edelweiss came through in a big way and rejuvenated our desire to work and live in Europe.

For $129 USD we got a standard room with a large balcony and a nice view of the surrounding Alps. Everything in the room was very well appointed and the bed is very comfortable! There were extra blankets and pillows in the closet, which is hard to come by in many European hotels.

The common areas in the hotel were all beautifully decorated and the huge fireplace in the middle of the lobby was a sight to behold. Many of the rocking chairs were positioned right in front of the fire. We thought that was a nice touch. We did use the hot tub and really enjoyed it. The tub was plenty large for a big group and we were not even disturbed by the kids who were treating it like a kiddie pool. As for the inside pool, it was swarming with kids and pool toys. This was not the place for two adults to sit back and relax.

We ate at two of the restaurants at Edelweiss and had better than average experiences at both. The first night, we walked right up to the Pullman Place without a reservation and were quickly seated. We had read that a reservation was an absolute must for this restaurant, but that was not the case on this particular Friday night. The service and food were both very good and we did not think the prices were too expensive. The second dining experience was at Zuggy's Base Camp. The menu was rather limited, but the beer was good and the food was decent. Overall, we were happy with the dining choices at Edelweiss and still cant understand why most people frowned upon it.

My husband and I went to both Rome and Germany for our honeymoon; we both agreed that our stay at the Edelweiss in Garmisch-Partenkirchen was by the best part of our honeymoon! Garmisch itself is a quaint and beautiful little town; the people were very pleasant and nice. The Edelweiss is tucked a bit aways from the town itself, but the scenery is absolutely beautiful! The hotel was VERY well-maintained, and the staff was exceptionally wonderful. We had only reserved a standard room due to the hotel having limited availability for Oktoberfest, and were surprised by the spaciousness of the room; the balconies offer great views both of the Alps and the hotel grounds.

The Edelweiss offers three different restaurants/bars - Market Station, Pullman Place, and Zuggy's Base Camp. Market Station is a buffet-style restaurant open every day for each meal; however, the breakfast is really the only great meal that they serve. Lunch and dinner are only mediocre and not very satisfactory. For a wonderful dinner, we recommend eating at least once at Pullman Place. Though it isn't open every day, the food there is excellent and the staff provide great service. The only real downside to both of these places is that they are somewhat expensive, so you probably won't want to eat there every day. Also, Zuggy's is predominantly a bar, though they do serve dinners there - the pizza is GREAT and the drinks are decently priced - but each night that we went there was a fiasco in trying to get decent service. Though the staff is nice, it takes an inordinately long time to even get a beer, let alone food. Dinner one night took us about 2 hours! If you want to try some of the local restaurants, we recommend the Cafe Thron - the prices there were decent and the food was very good.

The hotel has plenty of things to do for everyone; they have tours for several different German attractions, hiking, bike-riding, etc. We especially enjoyed the tour to Neuschwanstein Castle. Just keep in mind that most of the tours will take the whole day to complete, and you need to sign up for them as soon as you arrive because they fill up fast!

We had a great time at the hotel, and it was difficult for us to leave when we reached the end of our stay. It is obviously American and makes no attempt at being a "traditional" German hotel. However, the experience with them was still great and we can't wait to return!

There are no airconditioning in any of the rooms, it gets uncomfortable during summer nights when you're trying to fall asleep. Aside from that, it's great!
