“Nice place, good price, friendly Hostess!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2009

Haus Lilly was a place I chose for my wife and I plus another couple traveling with us. The haus is on a main street but is quiet inside. Frau Lilly was a great hostess and the rooms were clean. We stayed in two rooms upstairs which had two shared bathrooms and one tub/ shower, which was no problem at all. The unit also had a small stove, dishes, refrigerator, and sink for our use. The breakfast was a nice start for the day also. There is a place that sells bier (beer) and soft drinks next door for a good price, and a reasonably priced Italian restaurant down the street toward town. The only thing that would improve the stay would be for new bath towels, as the ones we used were somewhat threadbare.
Would I stay there again? Yes!
Do I recommend it? Yes
It is not a 5 or 4 star hotel by any means but it is clean, the hostess is friendly, a good location within an easy walk to the center of town, and Lilly gives each person a free bus pass for their entire stay.

A group of 6 of us (three couples) went to Garmisch for Thanksgiving weekend for skiing and found Haus Lilly through TripAdvisor. We read the review that Frau Lechner is older and doesn't write anything down and that really does seem correct, but we had absolutely no problems with our room being available. She was wonderful on the phone and just kept telling us "You come! You come!" We stayed in room 4, which is a 3 bedroom 1 1/2 bath apartment with a small kitchen and paid 25 Euros per person per night. What a deal! The beds are all twin beds, some pushed together, so definitely not the room to get if you have a romantic weekend in mind but it worked great for three couples who just wanted to ski and explore for the weekend. Each bedroom had it's own sink and mirror in addition to full bath and the half bath in the apartment as well as its own door to the private (for our apartment) wrap-around deck. The decor is a bit outdated but everything is spotlessly clean and comfortable.

Haus Lilly is walking distance from restaurants and shops (the guys in our group especially loved the Porsche dealership right next door!) and is a close drive to the Zugspitze. We stayed for 2 nights and breakfast (included in the price of the room) was delicious each morning and consisted of hard boiled eggs, breads, meats, cheese, jam, coffee, tea, and her famous apple strudel our first morning. Her English is limited but she speaks enough that you understand what she's trying to say and we got a very warm farewell when we checked out and were told that we were "very nice" and we should "come back and bring friends". All 6 of us loved Haus Lilly and plan on staying with her on our next trip to Garmisch.

Please check out my pictures of Haus Lilly!!

I have been staying at Haus Lilly for the past 10 years. I have always had an enjoyable time. This quaint Gastehaus is like staying at your grandmother's house. It is antiquated and cozy. Although Frau Lechner is known throughout Garmisch as one of the town characters, she is definately a warm and pleasant hostess. This is not a state of the art gastehaus/hotel it is an authentic German Gastehaus that has not changed in many years. Centrally located it is a mere 5 minute walk to the majority of the town's attractions. Well worth the stay and I highly reccomend it. We love Maria as if she were our own family.

These "Ferienappartments" offer spacious full unit hotel/condo type accomodation in the heart of Garmisch and are run by the incomparable Maria Lechner, a retired hotelier, able to communicate in German, French, and limited English, who serves up a true Bavarian breakfast for you, included in the room price, in her own kitchen. Centrally located in Garmisch, we chose this accomodation from one of the big name travel guide books which described the accomodations as authentic, quiet, and spotlessly clean. On the mark on all counts. (A good thing, too, since if we had read the Tripadvisor reviews, we would have given this place a pass. Clearly, our experience was markedly different from some others. My suggestion is that if you are looking for a hotel, stay in a hotel! If you want a restaurant, eat in a restaurant! And, of course, always always check out a room before you agree to stay, reservation or not. I would also add our room was full of clean, new, fresh smelling, towels, blankets, and linens. And Maria Lechner was neither brusk nor particularly sophisticated but polite and attentive with a pleasant manner.)

For our party of two adults and one small child, our unit had room to spare, with its three pull down beds (which store conveniently out of the wall in a custom wall unit when not in use), sofa/bench bed, fully tiled bathroom with shower, toilet, and sink, plenty of hot water, and full kitchen with refridgerator, stove, counter, cabinets, table and chairs. Toilet paper is supplied but bring your own soaps and shampoos.

The main room is fully carpeted. There is a small TV with remote. Full and plentiful linens, blankets, and towels are provided. Entrance to the apartments is around the side of Frau Lechner's main house, so you have your own exterior door, interior shared lobby, private interior solid unit door, and your own in the unit entranceway with plenty of space for hanging clothing and equipement. While our stay was only for one night in July, 2007, this location would be ideal stay for a family or group seeking out a week or weekend of skiing in Garmisch in winter, especially those looking for the comfort, convenience, and economy of cooking their own meals. Our main floor unit also boasted French doors leading to a small stone patio with table and chairs, and a nice grassed backyard fronting onto a pleasant stream. Room heat is by hot water radiator. As Garmisch is cool, even in mid-summer (mid-70's F or mid 20's C), air conditioning is not required.

The desired time for breakfast is arranged the night before with our host who served up our choice of hot water, coffee, tea, choice of fruit juice, hard boiled eggs, and buttered toast with real homemade delicious jam.

To locate Haus Lilly, travel south on Highway 9 from Munich and follow the signs to Garmisch. After passing through the only tunnel on route, the road splits; keep to the right and avoid the left lane going to Innsbruk and the Bremner Pass. After a little s-turn you will pass a McDonald's on your left and a Pizza Hut on your right at a small traffic light controlled T-intersection, the main corner in Garmisch. A kilometer up the road on the right keep your eye out for the large Haus Lilly sign beside the Porsche dealership. Free parking is out front.

Garmisch is one of the most beautiful tourist friendly residential Alpine towns which is full of tourist infrastructure and yet has not lost any of its small town character or charm. At 80 euro per night for three, breakfast included, Haus Lilly promises a true Bavarian experience at a budget price and delivers in spades.

When we first saw Haus Lilly we thought it was cute. There was a little garden, and it was on the river. However...there is an unfinished gas station next door, and a car dealer on the other side. There are MUCH nicer places in the area that ar surrounded by nicer things.
OK, once we got inside...the rooms-I don't think that the sheets were changed at all. Also, the towels were old and ratty. I mean, someone may think this is quaint, but not me. I have stayed in guest houses that are quaint and clean...
Now for the breakfast...if you can handle walking through the kitchen then manage to get the food down, consider your self lucky. The breakfast was not very substantial, only 4 egg halves for 7 people, bread, some bologna...the water was from the tap, the sink you have to walk by to get to the dining room, with dirty dishes in it.
THEN-the room charges...we were charged equal amounts for our children, making the room E120 per nite. A room at a much nicer place would have been a lot cheaper.
I WILL NOT EVER GO BACK!!!

I returned to Haus Lilly May 2005 after staying there on previous trips in the late 1980"s. It is very well located. Really easy to walk to town or the many small shops in Garmisch without bothering to drive or get a taxi. Maria Lechner, the owner, is still as I remember her. A warm, grandmotherly type. Always smiling and trying to get you something. My room was adequate, not fancy, but true Bavarian in style. I had a small kitchenette (refridgerator, hotplate and sink) with a coffee maker and untensils. How handy! In this day of hotels and mega buildings, I found this little intimate gasthaus a return to the Germany / Bavaria that I fell in love with years ago.
