Gasthof Fraundorfer
Certificate of Excellence

We love the Gashof Fraundorfer. Every review you read here is true. Barbara Sr, with her Gemutlichkeit, keeps this place running like a well-oiled machine and works harder than any five women I know. Barbara Jr is now the owner/manager and warmly carries on this amazing family tradition. The location on Ludwigstrasse, the beautiful church bells, delicious Bavarian food, huge breakfast buffet, hospitality, free parking, affordable prices, breathtaking views from the balconies, clean bathrooms, and entertainment all make this a wonderful vacation location. The sheets can be scratchy, and if you walk through the smoking alley you will see/and smell the back side of a hard-working restaurant, staff members who sign you in can be snippy, and you can hear the sounds of the children riding scooters to school, and beer men collecting empty kegs
from some rooms. We travel a lot and can afford fancy American style hotels, but we keep
coming back to the Fraundorfer because this is the real deal. Fantastic people from all over the world stay here. Our grown children also consider this their favorite place to stay in all of Europe.

Room Tip: Building in rear for quiet sleeping. Beautiful Bavarian rooms at the front offer small balconies wit...

This hotel is located on a lovely street with shops and restaurants. While the surrounding restaurants were satisfactory, the hotel's restaurant served excellent and authentic German cuisine along with fun German music and local entertainment (dancers). It all made for a magical evening. The owner was delightful, spoke excellent English (and tolerated my halting attempts to speak German) and very accommodating. The rooms were clean and nicely, though not opulently, appointed. The surrounding countryside is spectacular.

I chose a week at this Gasthof as a late minute trip to Garmisch and found it to surpass my expectations.
Room was comfortable with decent beds, all very clean, free wifi in the room, food very good, showers powerful.
The staff were helpful.
It is close to supermarkets, a tourist office/post office, and all the necessary shops, about 15 minutes walk from the train station.
My only gripe is as a light sleeper, the nearby church bells ring every 15 minutes throughout the night, hence I had to sleep with the window closed, making the room hot and stuffy. Perhaps ear plugs next time.

We stayed at this hotel 20 years ago and remembered it as one of our favorite stays, so we decided to stay here again on a return trip to Germany. We travelled with our daughter and son-in-law, and this was by far our least favorite hotel out of 6 we stayed in. The only two positives about this hotel were the price and location. We started out with a poor initial impression when the man who checked us in was unfriendly and showed no warmth whatsoever. A smile and kind welcome would have been appreciated. When we got to our room, it looked like the furnishings were the same ones that they had 20 years ago. The worst part was the sheets on the bed. The knit sheet on the bed I slept on was so pilled and scratchy that I got a blanket out of the closet and just slept on that. The hotel has a restaurant associated with it and we could see the empty boxes and trash out behind the restaurant from the window in our room. We would not ever stay here again.

Hotel is well situated near shops and restaurants in the old part of the town. We stayed in traditionally furnished annex building which was very roomy, clean and comfortable. The hotel main building is furnished in the traditional Bavarian style and has a great ambiance. We ate at the hotel and had a great evening of local food, great beer, music and dancing.
This is a great holiday hotel, located in walking distance (just) of the Olympic park and gorge. The hotel is also close - short drive to Zugspitze which is a great (but expensive ) day out.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The annexe was very nice.

Here you will find a cozy accommodation with good service. Check-in went smoothly and the staff talked good English.

Our room (number 6) was a corner room out onto the pedestrian street with a double and single bed. It was a pretty small room with an even smaller bathroom. Everything is made of wood, except for the bathroom which looks to be from the 70s. But everything was clean and quite charming.

Fraundorfer also seems to be a popular restaurant. In the evening many tables were reserved but we were lucky to get a table at last. Inside the restaurant there was live music.

On lively summer evenings when you have to have the windows open the nightlife may be disturbing. It's close to everything, good breakfast and I can imagine staying here again.

Room Tip: If you want a quiet room choose a room in the annex

Was there for a night in August, and it was the surprise of the whole trip. Where to start? The staff was helpful and friendly, the room was clean, spacious and in good shape, and the beer....
Not to mention the nice and cozy breakfast.
For those wanting to spend a night in Garmisch, forget about the city center. Ludwigstrasse is like a village within the city, and is fun to hang around. And the Gasthof is great for that.
