“Nice hotel, especially for family”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

Great for family needing multiple rooms! They have adjoining rooms at a fair price. There was plenty of parking and restaurant in the hotel. Staff were very friendly. The views from the windows were gorgeous.

I booked a Queen bed as on booking form, and was given a French bed shoved against a wall, with one pillow. When I complained I was directed to a computer. Why? I have no idea. For this ordeal I have been billed A$116, outrageous.

Very nice hotel, with confortable bed, good location. Although ski season was over it's a good base for visiting both bavarian castles and Austria city of Salzburg and neighbourhood.
Room is clean, reception staff friendly, we were also granted a free pass to several local entertainment facilities.

The staff at the Mercure, Garmisch provided me with a very well appointed , comfortable room. The staff were all courteous and happy to help me out, particularly with directions around the local area.
My room was a suite with attached bathroom. The TV had 300 channels ! A few glichy things I picked up on was the bathroom door didn't open right out as it hit the entrance door stop and it took me a laugh to work out the light switchings in my room. Another thing I noticed was I could hear the noises outside the hotel and moving along the corridor. This didn't effect my quality of stay but I had a quiet chuckle listening to people waiting for the elevator. Maybe weatherstrip the front door may solve this amusing glitch to an otherwise top quality room.
My room was the biggest I'd stayed in during my holiday with a big, full width window giving out to views of typical 18th century buildings, crested by the magnificent snow covered mountains behind.
My room had central heating , tea and coffee facilities, complimentaries in the bathroom, gallons of hot water, TV , WiFi, radio and a separate corner hutch. These appointments made for a most relaxing, comfortable overnight stay. There is free parking for guests also, though get in early as the parking is limited.
Outside the drive-in entrance is a convenience shop with everything and a 5 min walk away is old Partenkirchen with its lovely and fine medieval architecture. A 5 min drive gets you to the Garmisch shopping precinct.
I'd recommend this hotel to clientele who are after something slightly "up-market" without the pretensions of being up-market. I would recommend the hotel to my friends and would stay at the Mercure Garmisch again.

For a minute I thought I was back in the DDR. The architect of this building must have been schooled in the socialist tradiition. This hotel is not up modern standards, at least not for the price they charge. The rooms are big enough, but the bathrooms are very small, equipped with a bathtub. Not a good place to stay at on a hot summer day, there is no air-con, but then maybe they have guest only in the winter? Parking is free on the hotel's own area as long there is space, but I suspect there were many non-guest taking advantage of Mercure.

My husband and I stayed here at the end of our tour of Germany. We stayed three nights and skied two days. We arrived by train from Mainz, and found ourselves speechless as we watched the mountains take shape along the horizon. Garmisch is absolutely stunning, and we enjoyed beautiful views of the mountain from the window of our hotel room. Our room decor was dated, but the room itself was incredibly clean. However, the bed was a bit too firm, and the pillow too flat. There was also a strange odor in the stairwell, which was easily avoided by taking the elevators. The water temp in the pool was too cold for us, and we opted not to swim. Breakfast was good, with a nice variety from which to choose.

The staff at the front desk were very helpful and informative.

I agree with other reviewers who have complained about having to pay for wifi use. There is a PC available for use in the lobby, with internet access, but access in the room would be much more convenient. Bathrobes are required when walking from the room to the sauna, but have to be requested at the front desk and were provided only after leaving a credit card for a deposit.

We stayed here over half term, there was a group of 7 of us. The hotel was clean and the breakfast option was good. However upon arrival the receptionist was a little rude. The WIFI was chargeable which is not something you expect from a 4* hotel, and it was not cheap either at 3 euros for 1 hour. A number of the party did pay for this but it was a hit and miss connection.

It should also be noted that the location is a little too far out for easy access to the slopes and the local transport doesn't seem to marry up very well so it can mean walking or waiting around.
