We chose the Classic on our most recent visit because the visibility was not so good on the Zugspitze that day. Two out of the three trams in the classic loop are cable cars, the third a gondola. We only used the cable cars to get around as we had our toddler with us and used a stroller. The trails along the mountain, particularly at these landings are well-formed and gravel. We had a jogging/all-terrain stroller, which I recommend, but it can be done with a normal stroller, just probably more bumpy. At the middle landing, our son loved the nearly-flat space to climb around and all the rocks to pick up! Well worth the 50€~ we paid! Be sure to dress for altitude as it will be chillier than in the valley!
