Owner description: At nearly 10,000 feet, Germany's highest peak is a popular ski area during the winter and a challenging hiking trail during the rest of the year.

Journey to the top of the Zugspitz, Germany was wonderful. To some extent the top and the path are similar to Jungfrau of Switzerland. Specially the cost is quite low and family can afford the same here. Top is covered with snow through out the year. One hour train journey to the top from the Garmisch is full of pleasure and specially inside the tunnel. Beauty of Garmisch-Partenkirchen is attractive as well. Return journey by the rope way is a added advantage.

We had our schedule planned hence this was the only day we could visit Zugspite. The weather was really bad and it was foggy all the way from the bottom to the top. We were hoping that up there, we can pass the fog and view the peaks... but we were greatly disappointed.
Will advise everyone to check weather before taking the trip up... The trip up and down is very time consuming, and will take up a good 4-5 hours.

We enjoyed our trip to the Zugspitze. We took the cable car up and the cog railway down, and I'm glad we did so in that order because the cog takes a lot longer and would have cut into our time up on the mountain. The views up there are gorgeous, the restaurant was pretty decent, and there is sledding on the glacier side. The tickets are expensive but it is a whole day activity with the sledding/playing in the snow and we had a blast.

if you are in garmish you have to go there. The train is a waste of time as you spend most of the ride underground. take the tram to get the best views. The ski report was very unreliable as it always said no new snow even when they got snow.

We visited the top of Zugspitze in September and the views were breathtaking.
We took the first gondola/cable car up in the morning, so for a little while it was just us at the top. There were some last minute doubts about whether or not to even go up, because the weather at eibsee was overcast and grim, but we went anyway.

At the top, there had been a recent, and heavy snow, so the workers were hard at it, clearing snow and ice. The sun was shining and the whole place was eerily quite and peaceful. That said, by the time we were preparing to head back down, the overcast below had cleared and we were able to take some fantastic pictures of the valley and lakes.

Being from Canada, and unused to any sort of alpine experience, I wasn't prepared for how chilly it was at the top. A big section of the pedway was closed because of the snow, and so was the area where you can hike out to the actual sumit. That didn's bother us, but I felt kind of silly not knowing about the drastic differences in climate up at the top.

Such a fun and unique experience. If I had dressed warmer, I would have stayed at the top a lot longer :)
