Advise by our hotel to go there, even though the fare for the cable car was 50euro it was well worth every euro. The cable car was fantastic, and the view was unbelievable, do not miss this trip, but make sure it is a good day before you start

Great fun, go up by Eibsee cable car and down by train to lessen the crowds. Good self-service restaurant. Cross to Austria, go to Germany's highest beer garden and enjoy great views (weather permitting).

We took the train from Munich to GP - lovely train ride passing the meadows and stunning as you approach the mountains (sit on the top deck)

The Zugspitze ticket office is just round the corner from GP train station. It's a heafty €50 per person! Note there is a live webcam on the Zugspitze website to make sure you'll be getting a good view.

We took the cog wheel train up half way, the the cable car to the summit. Note the queues for the cable car are very long, recommend getting there as early as you can.

The views are stunning! There's ea terrace outside where can enjoy a beer and sausage - surely the best view of any beer garden.

We then took the cable car down the other side of the mountain - stopped at the glacier. There's a cute log cabin you can get drinks & food.

Finally the cog wheel train back to GP.

All in all a wonderful day out with spectacular scenery. Easily done in a day trip from Munich. Just make sure you check the weather forecast as €100 would be a lot to pay to see some mist!

Took the cable car up to the summit - views will not disappoint! You can cross into Austria via a gate which is very different. A few places to eat up there too. There is a second car which descends into the glacier which is worth taking. Also there is a narrow path with a rope which goes up a little further but certainly not for the faint hearted or those with unsuitable footwear.
