The Gastehaus Strasser is a wonderful little guesthouse with plenty of charm. A Gastehaus is similar to a bed & breakfast. Situated on the outskirts of Garmisch you are away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, but surrounded by the beautiful Bavarian Alps. There is enough parking out front for a rental car and within a few feet of the bus stop or it’s just a few minutes’ walk into downtown. Within walking distance, you will find the fantastic ruins of Castle Werdenfels that are great for an afternoon of exploring.
Upon arriving at the Gastehaus Strasser we were greeted by an extremely cheerful lady. Her English was not perfect, but easily understandable (remember you’re in their country) The owner, Christine Strasser, quickly brought us up stairs to the very large apartment we would be staying in for the next 5 days. She also has other smaller rooms available too. Pricing was very modest and within anyone's budget. The top floor apartment consisted of almost the entire third floor which included a balcony with a view of the Zugspitze. Our apartment included more than enough storage, a comfortable bed, a kitchen, and dining room that allowed us to save money on meals since we were in Europe for two weeks on our Honeymoon. If you choose the apartment and plan to cook, there is a small local convenience store just a few doors down. One thing to note that is fairly common in Europe, the apartment lacked a stand up shower. Instead the bathroom is equipped with a deep tub and removable shower head to allow for showering sitting in the tub.
The entire home was clean and well kept. The breakfast room is welcoming and the food is excellent which consisted of your typical Bavarian breakfast of cheese, meats, breads, and yourgut. You can feel right at home at the Strasser. The owner, who cooks, cleans, and just about everything else will welcome you into Gastehaus with open arms and will help you have the perfect Bavarian vacation
