The museum was very interesting and informative. Beautiful town, great countryside. We visited a family restaurant and had lunch, great hearty country food, very charming family, the neighbors gave a short performance in costume. Great visit last time I came for the Passion Play no time to do anything else. This time was for sightseeing. If you ever get a chance to go durning the Passion Play year just about the entire town about 2,500 people participate or perform in the play. It's a moving and beautiful play that is perform on an open-air stage. It's every 10 years since 1634, the dedication of these villager's is amazing in this day and time. The only word Dedication....

Went on a trip to Oberammergau after the visit to Ludwig's castle. It was like a wet Sunday afternoon trudging round the gift shops. Not many people about and enough shops to occupy us for only about half an hour.
It was only when we were looking for a public toilet that we came across the theatre (the toilets were at the side of the building). We never saw a museum.
I was really looking forward to going to Oberammergau as it is such a famous place but was sadly disappointed.

What a wonderful small town and small museum. On our way from the Linderhof Castle we stopped in Oberammergau, Bavaria. The town is near the Ammer River and the country side is beautiful. When you drive into the town the first thing you notice is the cow pastures are in the center of the town. The small museum is housed in the new theater building where the Passion Play is performer every year that ends in a zero. The Museum has samples of wardrobes that were worn in previous plays. About one half of the residents of the community (2,000 people) participate in this world famous live event which started during the Black Plague of 1634. There are several souvenir shops near the Museum and Theater. They sell beautiful wood carvings, toys, religious objects and great placemats of the local castles. The town's people
are very friendly and welcoming. You can stroll the small town in about 25 minutes. It is a great place to rest and it appears to be an event better place to stay for a few days. After shopping, I walked over to the fence and watched the cows graze. It was very relaxing and stress free.

Went to the museum and brought a pass, 7.00 Euro, which included visits to the Pilatus-haus and Passions-theater as well. All three places were very informative. An English tour of the Passions-theater takes place at 11 am. We were lucky that our guide has been in the Passion Play for the last three times as Mary Magdalene.

Though we missed the Passion Play (I believe the next is in 2020), this attractive visit is truly worth a visit. Roam anywhere on the streets and every moment is worthwhile
