“Very pleasant stay in Mittenwald”
Reviewed June 18, 2009

My two children (aged 9 and 11) and I stayed at this family¨friendly hotel for 3 nights. We had a triple room with a balcony on the second floor. The room was very clean, comfortable and quiet. The daily breakfast was plentiful and delicious. My children enjoyed romping in the grassy play area and resident dog and cat. The owner was quite helpful to us when we asked her for directions and advice. She advised us that we could rent bicycles at a store in the train station and we had a great time bicycling the area one sunny afternoon. She also told us where we could find a luge ride in nearby Garmisch. This hotel is a short walk (no more than 10 minutes) to the center of Mittenwald where there are many restaurants and shops. We would definitely stay here again in the future.

We stayed at Hotel Garni for three nights in May. We traveled for three weeks staying at 7 different types of hotels and B and B's (mainly in Germany, 3 nights in Austria). We paid as low as $70 and as high as $200 a night in 2 and 3 star places. This was our least favorite place.
While we agree with most of what other writers have mentioned, we were disappointed with:
1. musty/old smell in room that lingered over the 3 days
2. no trash can in bath or bedroom
3. the owner always seemed in a hurry and at times bothered with any questions or asking for directions...and she spoke so fast we couldn't follow her (we weren't the only guests who were bothered by her attitude)
4. some breakfast items were not replenished as the breakfast time continued
We were pleased with the parking situation and cleaniness. Because of the weather, we were unable to enjoy the patio.
After our trip, we decided that in the future our trips to this area of Europe, we will only stay in establishments that have restaurants on site or within a 2 min. walk.

We booked this guesthouse because it is the highest rated guesthouse on Tripadvisor. We stayed in June 2009.

Frau Edlhuber greeted us personally on our arrival and she was as charming as could be. Our room was rustic and full of character. The bathroom had good modern fittings and was spotlessly clean. Their was a refrigerator in the room, but no minibar. Does anyone without an expense account actually ever use hotel minibars? We certainly never do! The TV was quite small but why would you want to watch TV when you can sit outside and watch the babbling stream run pass right outside your room, or at night just crash out after a day hiking or biking around the many trails Mittenwald has to offer. Breakfast was served in a nice and cosy breakfast room. There were cold cuts, cheeses, cereals, bread, fruits, eggs and cakes on offer, all very good quality which made the breakfast good value. Again Frau Edlhuber will make sure you are off to a great start for the day.

In the evening I suggest you eat at the nearby Mittenwald brewery restaurant, great beer, great food, very reasonable prices.

The guesthouse is about 20-25 minutes walk south of the town centre and railway station. As such you could probably find better located hotels in terms of distance or mountain views, but if you stay at Frau Edlhuber's house you will agree with all the other reviewers of this guesthouse on Tripadvisor that this is a great place to stay.

We stayed over Easter and the place was like an Easter Grotto, time spent to do the place up must of taken up a lot of their time. The staff where spot on always there but not in your face. We chose an apartment room which was a good choice, with a patio straight onto the garden, with the karwendal in the background. Bavaria is a place of outstanding beauty, and you have this little gem amongst the beauty. As b&bs go this is the best one I have been to, you just feel so at ease in the hotel. Its only a 10 minute walk to the main square, and it is a nice walk taking in all the surrounding hotels, but believe me DO NOT MISS THIS ONE.

I stayed at this friendly b&b in feb 09 with my husband and daughters (5 yrs and 8 mths). I would certainly go back. We found Frau Edlhuber to be very welcoming and helpful, and the place was very well suited to the children. Our room was on the ground floor and was large, well heated, and had a small hob and kitchen area in it which was very useful. The room and hotel in general was very clean and well kept and had a very cosy feel. The breakfast was German-style and very good, with various cheeses, meats, bread, pastries, cake, cereal, eggs, fruit, juices, hot drinks, etc. The hotel does not provide lunch or dinner, but there are many restaurants and cafes in Mittenwald to eat in. There is ample parking just at the front of the hotel, and a small garden by the river to the side. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk into the centre of Mittenwald, so if you are skiing then it would be easier to have a car so you can drive directly to the ski lifts at the Luttensee rather than walking to the main station and catching a bus with your ski gear. If you are there in winter with children, then rent a sledge from the town centre - it is a very practical way of getting them back from the restaurant in the evening when they're tired, and there are lots of places you can use the sledge in the daytime.
Liked: the hotel, the staff, the breakfast, the room, mittenwald
Disliked: having to drag the children out in a blizzard to find food one evening

we have just come back from mittenwald and we had a luck to stay at this beatiful hotel for 3 days. everything was perfect: the room was spacious, warm and very clean. Breakfast for every taste. The owner is very very friendly and helpful. All these things made us feel like at home of best friend and not at a hotel. The hotel is very close to the city center but at the same time it is located in the very quiet zone of the village (well, to tell the truth, it's all quiet :) ). definitely it's the best place to stay in Mittenwald for the lovers of nature, mountains and Bavarian culture.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Garni Edlhuber for two nights in late November. We wanted an appartment though we was given a double room finally. Nevertheless we were impressed with the ample space and decorations of the room. The bed was large and clean. The washroom was also absolutely clean and spacious. The hotel environment was very quiet and we could slep well (the only noise at night, though rare, came from the trains that certainly affected all in the town). My room was on the ground floor but we still enjoyed the view of a nearby mountain and a small stream. The breakfast buffet was rich.
The staff was helpful and nice. The host kept a dog and it was really lovely.
The only complaint (a minor one) was the distance to railway station (as we traveled by train and carried heavy luggages). It was rather difficult to walk on the slippery pavement (in winter times) for 20 minutes while carrying the luggages.
