You can understand why Hitler wanted to stay here... amazing views and far away from everything else. A historical important place you can´t miss out on if you´re visiting this area. A must visit.

Whatever you think about Hitler, don't miss this attraction. The elevator ride to the top is like standing in history and is fixed in time. The view is out of this world.

From Salzburg, this was a somewhat lengthy journey using public transit -- you need to take a bus to Berchtesgaden, a second bus to the ticket office, and a third bus to get up to the brass elevator entryway. Despite the bus-hopping, though, the resulting views from the Eagle's Nest tea house and surrounds were GORGEOUS. There is a little restaurant at the top with traditional German food and beer, and you can choose to hike up or down instead of taking the elevator. Up the road from the ticket office there is a museum to provide information on the historical significance of the area. The price to ascend the mountain was reasonable, as were the bus tickets to bring you to and from Berchtesgaden. The town itself is also quite charming and well worth a wander when you've finished at the Eagle's Nest.

In internet you get a day in spring that Eagle's nest will open but that is just an estimation. This was supposed to be the high point of the trip but it turned out that the peak is still closed because of snow. And you can't know it until you arrive. It would be very nice if this would be visualized in their web-site somehow.
So, big disappointment for us.
