We stayed for two nights in the family suite. I was surprised how spacious it was, more like an apartment than a hotel room. There was a kitchen, a jacuzzi, and washing machine. We even had a balcony, which, while overlooking some busy roads, had a great view of the mountains. There was a very relaxing feel to the accomodations. The staff was low key and friendly. A very memorable part of our trip.

Great location as it is 5 minute walk from train station and town center. Staff is very helpful and accomodating. Beautiful view of mountains. Great breakfast included. All in all, I would definitely recommend this hotel!

I have stayed in Berchtesgaden many times with a small group of 10 persons and the Hotel Bavaria is now at the top of my list of places to stay again. Words cannot express how cordial the entire staff was to everyone in my group in our 4 day stay there. Petra, our hostess, was there when we arrived and made us all feel as though we had known each other for many years. She helped with our luggage, our travel plans, and anything else we wanted. Jorge, the owner was there our second day and also made us feel as though the hotel were our own home. The restaurant overlooked the Bavarian mountains, and the food, prepared by Karl and his assistant Oliver, was some of the finest on our entire trip. Andreas and Doris were another part of the staff that made us very comfortable with their warm hospitality. The rooms were first class with views of the mountains. The hotel is within walking distance to all major sites in downtown Berchtesgaden. I would highly recommend this jewel of a hotel to anyone wishing to visit the Berchtesgaden/Salzburg area. This hotel is a must-stay place for all wishing a relaxing home away from home.

We are an English couple who are now semi-retired and living in France. After many years of working in the hotel and pub trade and, of course, staying in hotels all over the world, we are pleased to be able to say that the Hotel Bavaria is the best family run hotel we have found!

We spent a week at the hotel - all the staff were very friendly and helpful, especially on reception - the restaurant was so good we ate in every night - our room was fantastic with the view out to the mountains breathtaking and the jacuzzi bath a real treat - everywhere was spotlessly clean and the maid service very good - the choice at breakfast was staggering and we never needed to eat again until the evening!

The location of the hotel was perfect for access to the mountains, the railway station, the buses and the village centre - just a dream! - we even managed to leave the car in the parking area all week and did our sightseeing by foot or public transport - it's rare to be able to do that! Noise outside was never a problem, even with the window open. To be honest we listened to the sound of the river rather than anything else and that was part of the attraction of the location! After a day walking in the beautiful countryside we slept like babes!

What more can we say apart from - we will be back!!

I made a confirmed reservation with booking.com, I gave my credit card # and wrote a note saying I would be a late arrival. I was lucky to be able to leave work early on the Friday of Easter Weekend and I arrived to the Hotel 4 hours earlier than planned. After driving 4 hours and then having to walk around the town for an hour due to road construction that my GPS system could not route me around, I arrived to the hotel only to find out they cancelled my reservation. The reception desk was closed when I arrived but a waiter at the restaurant called the owner to enquire about my reservation. The owner said they cancelled it because the wrote me an email which I did not reply to. I never, repeat never received an email from them but I could not imagine what they would write me about since it was a confirmed reservation using my credit card. " We hereby confirm the following booking.booking.com booking number XXXXXXXXX". We were lucky enough to find another hotel considering it was Easter weekend in a very poplar tourist area of Germany. I would never chance making another reservation with this hotel, I blame the hotel as you see they made the decission to cancell my reservation, I do not blame the booking company.

This is a family run hotel that is in walking distance of the train station should you be coming here by train. The architecture seems quite typical of the region and it affords great views on a clear day of Mount Watzmann, a 2713 metre mountain that is the third highest mountain in Germany.

The main town centre is behind the hotel itself and requires some hill walking to get there which should only take around 10 to 15 minutes. As we were staying there for 6 days we decided to stay in the ‘deluxe’ suite which I would imagine is a little bigger that the other rooms with the added kitchenette. This consisted of two electric hobs, sink and draining board, microwave oven, fridge and a kettle. This did have its uses when you didn’t want to eat out every night and you could make endless cups of tea. This was obviously a bit more expensive, and even more so at the time with the diminishing sterling v the Euro. The fridge was handy for keeping beer and wine in.

The breakfast was very typically German. Lots of cereals, scrambled and boiled eggs, lots of different breads, fruit, yoghurts, tea and coffee. We were a little disappointed that some of these things had run out by the time we got down to breakfast (in good time) and were not replenished. As stated above, the views from the dining room were excellent on clear day and added to the dining experience.

Within the hotel itself there was a spa room which consisted of a sauna, Jacuzzi and steam room, however there was an additional cost to using these facilities. You can have the whole room to yourselves with a small bottle of champagne thrown in should you wish, but again, you have to pay extra for this.

The deluxe suite that we had was comfortable, clean and tidy. The double bed was a water bed that I wasn’t keen on and wouldn’t choose again if given the option. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi in it but these things are a little gimmicky in my opinion wasn’t really used that often. When it was used the experience was a little underwhelming.

Overall this is a perfectly fine hotel. One thing I would recommend to people staying here would be to get a room at the rear of the hotel away from the busy main road that runs down the right hand side. The image on their website doesn’t show this road and although we had a balcony overlooking it, we weren’t affected by the noise as it was winter and we had the doors and windows closed. I would imagine in the summer that the noise would be terrible and sitting out on the balcony wouldn’t be that relaxing.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. Memorable for all the wrong reasons.

After reading great reviews and confirming that we would have a view of the mountains from our room, we were very disappointed to find our room only had a view of one of the brick walls of the hotel and the back door of the kitchen. We could only see the mountains by opening the windows and craning our heads to the side or by going out. When we queried why our room did not have a view, the male receptionist bluntly said we had only paid for a cheap room (it's a pricey place to start with). Unfortunately for us, the hotel was booked out and we could not get a room with a view even if we wanted to pay more.

Also, we found ourselves itching at night and would wake up with dozens of red spots over parts of our bodies not covered by our pyjamas. It was hard to sleep with all the itching and we would only itch when we got in to bed. Unable to take any more itching and red spots, we asked for all of our sheets to be changed on our last night and got a better night sleep although we were still itchy. After 3 weeks, we still have most of the red spots! OUR SKIN IS RUINED. The red spots made the remaining 2 and 1/2 weeks of our holiday in Europe less enjoyable and very uncomfortable as we had to cover ourselves up as much as possible to avoid people staring at our arms, legs and necks with spots!!!

There was ample space for our luggage and clothes in the corner alcove but the room only had one light so it was difficult to see our clothes in the dresser in the daytime even with the light on. Luckily I had brought a flashlight along.

You should note the hotel entrance is labeled as "Entrance to Restaurant". When we arrived with our luggage (raining heavily) we had to walk around looking for the hotel entrance not knowing it was the same door.

You should also note the reception desk is not serviced 24/7. The female receptionist was very friendly and helpful but the male receptionist was not very accommodating. He appeared to be impatient when we struggled to carry our luggage up the stairs and only helped by carrying the smallest bag. When asked for a second room key, he queried why we needed the second key and told us to get it later! We were already at the reception area so he could have just given the damn key to us!

Breakfast was the only memorable part of the hotel. Breakfast is served in the restaurant which we were told is owned by a different proprietor. You get a huge variety of food and the restaurant staff are very friendly.

Wifi is available but we could not get a signal from our room so had to take our laptop to the restaurant with us. It was a little embarrassing to have other diners look at us with our laptop on the table.

Berchtesgaden was fabulous and we will definitely return but we will STAY AT ANOTHER HOTEL. We were only able to tolerate staying at our hotel room by being outdoors as much as possible!

I took a photo of the view from our room and the room but deleted these - best left forgotten.
