Very eerie and definately not 'commercial tourist sites', excellent if you are interested in the history of the WW11. No guide, just a map and there you go, deep into the heart of the mountain - you can feel very isolated and moved at the same time

We stayed at the hotel Zum Turken and took the opportunity to visit the bunker complex. I do recommend learning a little about this location before coming to understand what you are looking at. My family enjoyed it and wanted to revisit the bunkers. It is wet, so take some caution moving up and down a lot of stairs.

I felt that these bunkers were much more impressive than those at the Dokumentation centre as they have not had anything much done with them since they were abandoned by the Nazis. There are just a few bits of information painted roughly on the walls. In fact they are quite spooky with lots of dark passages and the sounds of dripping water.
There was nobody else there when I visited so that added to the atmosphere.
I would suspect that they are a lot less busy than the other bunkers as they are a bit of a walk from the Dokumentation centre and there is not much signage to show the entrance.
There is a automatic turnstyle with a coin slot machine at the entrance but it may be turned off so if it doesn't seem to work and your money comes back out search for someone around the hotel to turn the machine on.

Possibly the eeriest place I've visited. Entry is a self-service affair, so be sure to take €3.50 in coins (as of Jan-13) for the gate fee. I arrived shortly after 10am, and had the bunker to myself for the duration of my visit.

Its part of a larger complex which originally linked to several others including the Berghof's - the passageway to which has long since been bricked up. Given it was Winter, at the lower most level there was water seepage so a pair of boots is advisable. Unfortunately there's no signs or information in English. If you don't speak German, just remember the word for 'Exit' is 'Ausgang'.

If you're planning a visit to the nearby Documentation Centre and its bunker, still visit here. It's a very different experience.

If you are interested in history, this is a gold mine! You can explore the bunkers which are labeled to tell you where Eva Braun, Hitler, his German Shepherds, etc., were assigned. You can also still see bullet holes, blackened walls...A real education!
