We stayed for one night. Its a traditional Bavarian hotel in a really beautiful location.
Friendly and helpful staff. Cozy place. Delicious breakfasts which were included and free parking.

Room was clean and very nice. I like the mountain hotel style. Very nice surroundings.

Extremely good value for money, I can highly recommended.

We stayed here for one night on a 2 week driving tour. The hotel is very old and the rooms are in need of being updated. We stayed in some very old places on our trip, but they at least had nice furniture and carpet. The carpet looked like it had been there since the 1950's and was not very clean. Sorry, but I would not recommend this hotel for even a 1 night stay.

Very basic room with old furniture and no balcony. Small bathroom. Very smelly place (the burn smell from the kitchen all over the building). Basic breakfast. Dining room outdated. Far from town. No English spoken. Very strange people living in some rooms (not travelers anyway). Very expensive compared to other locations. I would say 2 *

The Gasthof Waldluft is a hearty family owned guesthouse situated on the hillside of the mountain leading up to Kehlsteinhaus (Eagle's Nest). If you are lucky to get a balcony you will be able to enjoy a great view of the picturesque village of Berchtesgaden. Although, with a great view comes also a short but steep path to reach the guesthouse (not the best option in case of walking disabilities).

Tidy but simple lodging, with an excellent WC - only keep in mind that soap and shampoo is not included. Staff is very helpful but more or less solely German speaking.

Included in prize is a small breakfast buffet with basic yoghurt, bread rolls, jams, ham and cheese. The restaurant options in the evening are not recommendable unless you can settle with the breathtaking view and a conveniently close-to-home-bite. I ordered a trout which was not entirely cooked, but my company's schweineschnitzel was far better off.

For all the accommodations in Berchtesgaden there will be an additional tax to your prize which may come as a surprise. This tax, on the other hand, will give you a discount on entrance fees and bike rentals and free local transport (the RVO bus for example) - so don't forget to show the tax card when getting around! Also, the guesthouse lies just behind the Watzmann Therme which is a popular landmark and has its own bus stop which is convenient when getting around since taxis mostly run on appointments.

For a calm, friendly and basic guesthouse with a stunning view I would recommend Gasthof Waldluft. It is perfect for the active traveller who is satisfied with a standard breakfast and a nice place for sleeping after a long day outdoors. If you are looking for a more than basic housing to spend leisure time and long dinners I am sure there are better options about town.

We enjoyed a single night stay at this hotel in August. It was nice enough and great value for money but definitely not one of the nicer stays we have enjoyed in Europe. The rooms are very basic, not as clean as I would expect, and we had no balcony (despite booking one on Booking.com). There was no soap or shampoo supplied which surprised me for a three star hotel ad the pillows were flat and uncomfortable resulting in a sore neck the next day. Breakfast was terrible, with very limited selections, the cereal stale and very limited bread options etc. Unfortunately I would not stay here again by choice, though if you are looking for value alone, this hotel may suit your needs.

Pros: Amazing mountain views! We got one of the rooms with a balcony and one of the best parts of our trip was sitting out there each night watching the sun set. The staff was very friendly and helpful, though they do only speak German, so that could be an issue for some. Breakfast was included and was tasty. Hotel is very close to the Watzmann Therme bus stop which made getting to/from Salzburg and the Eagle's Nest very easy and convenient. Would definitely go back again for the great price and great views!

Cons: No AC--but that's every hotel in Berchtesgaden. The hotel is on the side of a mountain, so a very steep final walk up to the hotel (just the driveway), which was ok for us, but might be a problem for some. Definitely worth walking up thehill for the amazing views from the rooms, though.

Note: the required 2.10 per person city tax can be found at every hotel...it's because all hotel rooms come with a card that allows for FREE transportation on the city buses. The card can also be used for discounts at some attractions including the Eagle's Nest (but not the Koenigssee).

Room Tip: If possible, get a room with a balcony, though all rooms have good views

Should have looked elsewhere when it took them over a week to get back to me with an offer to my inquiry. We stayed in one of the two apartments and actually stayed an extra night but only to do more activities in the area, not for the house. Dining room way outdated, apartment decor dark and old, miss matched. Pillows were terrible to sleep on and the balcony was packed with storage equipment, empty boxes and junk so we couldn't even open the doors to enjoy the view. Trash including food scraps scattered around stairs that led to apartment door outside. Had to walk through the messy kitchen to get to breakfast in the morning. Breakfast was basic, coffee terrible. To top it off, was never told about the tourist tax which added up to additional unexpected 30euros at checkout time. You can do much better elsewhere for the price. On a positive, the bathroom was clean and updated and there was lots to do with in an hours drive including Hallstat Austria which was AWESOME!
